Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Art Attackkk on Jul 20, 2024 3:45:17 GMT 1, His latest works for sale at the Phillipsโ exhibition next week in New York are for sale @ $25k for 150 x 150 cm canvases and $18k for 120 x 120 cm.
I think noir is an odd one as heโs clearly supported by the big 3 auction houses, as all have had large exhibitions with him, but his market does seem to have fallen a lot in value.
Any ideas why?
I genuinely believe long term his works will have some decent value. He obviously has a base of collectors that will buy his work and he has the back story of painting the Berlin Wall and his style reaches the urban and contemporary market. I think he pisses collectors off however, as he has continually stated he wonโt ever produce any more prints, so collectors buy in, or hold what theyโve had for years, assuming the prints they own maybe increase in value due to this scarcity, but then he changes his mind when Phillipsโ $ cash cow comes rearing and he then produces another 500+ prints with Phillips, effectively devaluing the existing market for his prints.
Iโm guessing the market is greater in the US hence this latest exhibition in NYC instead of London. This then puts off buyers in Europe and other continents, as the cost of shipping and import taxes just adds to the expense. Apparently he is due another show in Hong Kong and Tokyo soon too, so there is clearly a market for his works despite the rather divisive thoughts and comment on here ๐

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Tobi187 on Jul 20, 2024 4:59:37 GMT 1, I'm happy that I sold most of my Thierry Noir stuff already. I still like his art, but his team made me ignore everything TN-related.
I remember when I bought a few really old originals online in Germany. I asked him via Instagram if these pieces were authentic just after I clicked the buy button. He asked me where they were for sale, and stupid me sent him the link. A few minutes later, the sale was canceled, and I received a refund. I reached out to Thierry, and the person who handled his IG replied, "They belong in a museum." Same line Indiana Jones says in his movies...
He lost a collector and supporter in me, and when I posted about this experience on this forum, at least three other users mentioned a similar experience.

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Art Attackkk on Jul 20, 2024 5:35:08 GMT 1, I agree with this 100%. Iโve had the TN studio ask me not to sell at the lower end auction houses and eBay et al and directing me to sell and buy at the 3 big auction houses. I am also aware that the studio have contacted galleries about them selling pieces too in a rather controlling way. It ends up winding people up the wrong way and then collectors end up โdumpingโ their works. I donโt think the crash in value of these works is due to pump and dump as itโs usually very obvious itโs happening and I have usually found that it is newer artists that galleries/investors are pumping and not artists with a known history of painting over many years. Probably more of a hype where a few pieces start to sell for big bucks and people create the market for more and more sales until things start to cool off. Iโm sure with the support of the large auction houses his market will continue to grow. Iโm guessing they make a fair percentage out of these sales but wouldnโt take the time, expense and do all the marketing etc if they didnโt think these were going to sell. The exhibition in NY is for over 2 weeks, so they clearly have a lot invested in this. So my conclusion is maybe a certain amount of pump and dump, a lot of hype and subsequent cooling off and a lot of people being wound up! Long term I think heโs one to keep, especially the older pieces and prints, as I think from 2020 onwards he was knocking out these paintings left right and centre.

More shrewd analysis you silly duffer! Do keep it coming if you can. Two week New York solo exhibition at Phillips! A sure fire method to rapidly shrink a collector base if ever I saw one old sport! You are bang on the money yet again chap!

Apparently he is due another show in Hong Kong and Tokyo soon too, so there is clearly a market for his works despite the rather divisive thoughts and comment on here ๐ It's called a pump and dump. He's been dumped. He ain't ever coming back, you don't burn this many people with 85% falls in value and recover. His work has no depth nor does his rapidly shrinking collector base. Arise Sir Salty of Noirbearshire! More shrewd analysis you silly duffer! Do keep it coming if you can. Two week New York solo exhibition at Phillips! A sure fire method to rapidly shrink a collector base if ever I saw one old sport! You are bang on the money yet again chap! #bear #bearish #salty #feelingbearish

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Henners XI on Jul 20, 2024 13:25:36 GMT 1, I'm happy that I sold most of my Thierry Noir stuff already. Now now old sport.
Indiana Jones 101 chap. Never give up the location of the dig until the treasure is secure in your bag!
And bon chance on all of your future grifts old sport! I salute you!

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Henners XI on Jul 20, 2024 13:26:29 GMT 1, It is best just to let history happen no need to make predictions one way or another. Bears and Bulls mean nothing. The only reality is what history will tell and it will most likely be after our lifetime if you look at comparable examples. Anything pro or con in the mean time is just wasted speculation. Why does anyone care about what happens after they die? You really don't need that kind of long view here, there are thousands of precedents of so called 'hot/hyped' artists fading into complete obscurity. A fellow would only need have a peek inside your bags to see old sport!

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Henners XI on Jul 20, 2024 13:29:46 GMT 1, I agree with this 100%. Long Noir old sport. Big boys all involved and all over it chap. Two week solo at Phillips in New York. More no doubt coming in Hong Kong if the rumours are true. Hurrah!
Noir York, Noir York I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps And find I'm a number one, top of the list King of the hill, a number one
These little forum blues, are melting away I'm gonna make a brand new start of it In old Noir York And If I can make it there I'm gonna make it anywhere It's up to you, Noir York Noir York Noir York

You really don't need that kind of long view here, there are thousands of precedents of so called 'hot/hyped' artists fading into complete obscurity. Totally agree I was just saying any real long term value of art takes generations... You are totally correct there are many people that fade never to recover but there are also a ton who rise much later, they were known but under appreciated or ahead of their time. I was just saying speculation is more a hype and not based on much long term data. True value seems to take time and is much more discerning on who makes the historical cut. Few of us know who that will be I know I sure do not... and I think most artists and their teams do not know either they are too close to the work... For what it is worth I do not see Thierry as burning his collectors he is running a business and selling art which is fair and what he should be doing.

Thierry Noir ๐จ๐ต Berlin Wall โข French Street Arist , by Wendero on Jul 21, 2024 8:22:45 GMT 1, I wonder if people are talking about of his art style that donโt likes , and this is a reason of person taste or are talking about of people that are loosing tons of money due the dump of his market .
