There are a lot of art out there, if one starts pricing things ridiculously, on to the next one

I’ll get my friend to check Stock X for me.

I'm not sure, I do know that he is popular and his after market increased in value considerably since I first found out about him through that ebay charity print he did a few years ago, used to be you could pick it up after market at 350

I understand all the market rules etc but asking for such a price for a printer print is taking the piss and laughed at. I seriously think of the artist laughing at the fools. Your POV is understandable though it doesn't reflect the general sentiment on his market

But it sold out, and a few have flipped for even more on the aftermarket in mere hours... so what do I know. I just won't be a buyer anymore.

Are artists gone bonkers?, by Deleted on Aug 21, 2020 18:18:29 GMT 1, What would you do if you were him? His work sells for far more than he charges. Better he sell lower and give flippers more profit? There’s no way to keep prices low *and* get them into the hands of fans who will keep them.
At least he has a store of regular priced stuff, so people who like his art but can’t afford the prints can buy a poster or whatever for under $50.

For the artist, you risk flooding the market, which might cause a problem in the long term.
If you could get a couple $M by selling a few editions, would you resist and play the long game?

Are artists gone bonkers?, by fonebone45 on Aug 21, 2020 19:04:00 GMT 1, I think the problem is that a mediocre nobody like Hebru Brantley sees fellow talentless (but more famous) artists, like Calleja for example, asking a few thousand for their crap cartoon stuff and he thinks "Mmm, I wouldn't mind some of that easy money too". And people are gullible enough to swallow the hype and go for it. Is a Hebru Brantley print worth 1.2K? No, of course it isn't. But whilst people are stupid enough to buy at that price he will continue to churn them out. I find it all quite depressing. Did he not just get a museum show though? Or picked up by a bigger Gallery? There was definitely some news about him very recently. That could have something to do with higher prices. Either way though, it's still hype art, and the bubble will burst.

Goldmark Atelier), made in only 10 editions, hand finished using a pencil in your ass , ok I can understand the price. But a print from a printer now... c’moooon maybe try sending the artist a direct msg, the people will keep on buying so you best put that energy towards a direct msg to the artists comm. channels, then maybe let us know what the artist say.

Are artists gone bonkers?, by medichead on Aug 21, 2020 19:37:07 GMT 1, It’s a travesty. There are so many good artists out there, people could be picking up large original canvases from MFA shows and supporting an emergjng artist with huge potential for serious gains in the long term, but at the very least a beautiful work of art to hang on the wall.
Instead, they’re buying a cartoon that - at best - might double in value, all the while looking slightly embarrassing on your wall when your friends come and see your kaws statues, murukami cushions, and kasuma pumpkins...
I wish people would examine why they like the art that they do...
