The prefect of Agrigento, Filippo Romano, signed the authorization for the movement of the NGO ship Louise Michele, flying the German flag, from the port of Lampedusa to that of Licata where the cargo ship will continue its administrative detention. Last 2 July it was blocked for 20 days by the soldiers of the maritime district office of Lampedusa and by the policemen of the Agrigento Police Headquarters because instead of heading for Pozzallo, a safe port indicated by the Italian authorities, it arrived on the island of Pelagie where they are the 37 migrants he had rescued disembarked. The commander of the Lampedusa Harbor Office requested the movement of the Louise Michele ship yesterday due to the lack of suitable moorings. Once the authorization has been signed, the Lampedusa Coast Guard will have to provide all the requirements to the NGO for the movement. The final term of the administrative detention, scheduled for July 21st, will be different due to the time needed for the transfer. An administrative fine was also imposed on the NGO, for which payment in a reduced amount is not permitted, and which will be quantified by the prefect of Agrigento.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the Italian authorities - not only in having their poor own 'poor people' lacking access to drinking water, but also their actions regarding the rescue of poor people at sea, who will have an even worse chance of survival - and, to top it all, issuing a fine as well as detaining the MV Louise Michel and adding a transfer to the already long enough detention, if I understand correctly ! One thing after another !!! 😩

They choose to forget about all those Italian citizens who spread across the world as immigrants themselves once and managed to carve out a decent life for themselves, wholly integrated !
