Really f**king transparent if anything. I still think there is something not right about it... but I guess its nice to see he has the balls to do it in the open rather than using a phone bidder or purchaser for him.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by dotdot on Oct 15, 2007 20:25:49 GMT 1, Surfin on the edge is one way of describing the actions of the Laz man. It could be argued that being to sole seller / vendor of the wares of B he has an amount of control of what goes onto the market. When stuff does come on the market he, if he wishes, buys it. Thus pushing the market up.
It's a risky business - and belies many assumptions least not - a Belief which is cast iron - in both his artist and himself.
Dont forget he bought the (i heard) mic which was in auction earlier this year.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by bobbymeachamjr on Oct 15, 2007 20:33:21 GMT 1, I'm all for making as much loot as you can - it's a f*ucked up world and unfortunately we all need lots of it. Its just a glaringly hypocritical conflict of selling "anti-gov't / anti corporate" products (notice I use the word product) while totally adopting (and even pushing) the very agendas that you're supposed to be against.

Ideally yes. Probability no. The world we know is being destroyed at an exponential pace. Only the inevitable unforeseen catastrophe of epic proportions can the planet start healing...

I didnt think the world new Faile yet - but what a cracking start. Some serious money was spent on 2 originals there today. I think this is recognition that they are now a major part of the Contemporary scene. Well done guys. Your stunning work and hard graft has paid off. Welcome to the big boys playground... Sothebys!! exactly.....The problem is though, with Laz investing so heavily at the top end he's obviously gonna want to make more money at the bottom end i.e where we try to compete

I think if we knew the ins and outs of the contemporary or fine art world.. literally a corrupt billion dollar industry ruled by the few.. then there'd be a few more on here applauding Laz and co. Your analogy of the Pistols works well against the major corporate bollox lables that dominated music for decades previous to Punk.
More power to em is what I say...

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by numusic on Oct 16, 2007 18:44:37 GMT 1, you think so ? what about everyone here who have been buying for a few years because they stumbled across a banksy street piece years ago and tried to track down who made it so they could have one on their wall. No, not dealers.. but young blokes who f**king loved the work. Squatters, clubbers, anarchists, pikeys.. people who wanted a picture of a copper giving the finger... or bomb middle england.. Laz sorted em out at 50 quid a pop ! for years !!!...f**king great if Banksy and Laz fancy sticking it to the aristo's, lords and tory f**kwits who controlled and still do control fine art.. it's like having a go a Michael Moore for being anti-corporate but making money from film.. easy target hey.. but hey, there's only one of him. f**k it, i don't want my art heros to be f**king saints... i want them to give the finger to the half wits who work in "art" whilst coining it in and investing in shows in LA and taking the piss again. That Mic show was a piss take of enormous proportions... a bit of perspective people. Climb aboard, come along for the ride... we're all on the bus and we've all got some great work out of it.. some lucky few have made a few quid and some even luckier few have managed to jack in their jobs and started trading and buying and selling art, the alternatives are s**t..service industry, good service, yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir....the new breed, their own bosses.. most of them not in it JUST for the money, but came to it through the ART.. look at art-el, just seeds, blackrat, copyright, opus.. the list goes on.. f**k guys.. whatever your feelings about it all.. whether you agree with it or not... these people are like you, the underdogs, the scrimping and scraping to buy a great piece.. to get involved..to be part of something pretty f**king amazing.... climb aboard, get comfortable, say hi to your fellow passengers.. there maybe be a crash around the next bend.. but maaannn, what a f**king great ride and what a top bunch of artists and people involved to crash with, "hold tight here we go, scream if ya wanna go faster".. argghhhhhhhh
peace and love !
