Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by Deleted on Mar 18, 2021 15:52:05 GMT 1, Hmmm.... interesting. Some good results, some bad ones and some puzzling ones. I wonder what Game Changer next week will do to the market?
I'm not sure whats going on with the final lot price as it would suggest they have only added on approx 25% to the hammer price? Shouldn't it be approx 35%? For instance, Donut hammered at 80k, but shows as a total price of £100,800.

Lets see if the higher starting prices at Christies makes any difference...

Ok. So, without wanting to sound like I'm manipulating prices, the final figure paid is still a lot higher than shown on the website.

Based on prices shown which still need adjust for VAT and ARR, I think.

Still pretty good compared to just over a year back
I'd be ok if I was a seller
Still a pretty awesome return for art bought years back for most

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by argylepaul on Mar 18, 2021 16:10:50 GMT 1, Are these the final sale prices for Sothebys, or is there a premium added on or any other add-ons? £75,000 sounds a bit lame for Very Little Helps, when I thought these might be into the 80s and 90s. Basically I am a bit thick when it comes to these prices. If I sold VLH now based on that, what would you expect to get with a private buyer/gallery?

Fair point Bren. Think the 2020 fireworks are taking a breather. Def not a bad auction feels like Banksy art has found a level for the moment.

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by dukeofwybourne on Mar 18, 2021 16:22:48 GMT 1, Are these the final sale prices for Sothebys, or is there a premium added on or any other add-ons? £75,000 sounds a bit lame for Very Little Helps, when I thought these might be into the 80s and 90s. Basically I am a bit thick when it comes to these prices. If I sold Very Little Helps now based on that, what would you expect to get with a private buyer/gallery? Using only this result - a gallery's price would likely be around 80k, and you'd be giving them 8% (using Hang Up as an example) A private sale on here, probably 70k? Either way you'd be getting more than the seller today, who after seller's fee would have got around 55k.

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by Deleted on Mar 18, 2021 16:24:45 GMT 1, That Toxic Mary result was a bit bizarre. Always seems to be one slightly suspicious result in each auction. Personally love it, but selling for more than Laugh Now and Pulp Fiction??
I'm sure we'll see a few people trying to sell theirs for £50/60/70k in the next few weeks and being surprised they aren't inundated with offers.

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by Rubberneck on Mar 18, 2021 16:25:17 GMT 1, Certainly not at those v low estimates and therefore reserves. I think they have really messed up the estimating. The only 2 with high estimates were surrounded by ridiculously low ones. As Christie’s have done more realistic estimates, in line with forum, it will be interesting to see how the online auctions compare.
sotheby’s low estimating I think is more to do with guaranteeing a sale and the commission for whomever is handling the auction. They are aggressively low with them.
