I half agree with you as OG prices have varied compared to estimate by quite a bit over the last 12 months. I would like to go to this auction, but have an all day team meeting (maybe I can sneak out at some point )

The point is to get peoples interest, also makes the auction house look good when an estimate is smashed. Standard practice for a long time now.

Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by ABC on Jun 13, 2011 22:01:10 GMT 1, It shows the difference in quality with Banksy works. Even if I had a spare 20k I would not entertain some of his poor quality works, lets face it why would you have a paranoid pictures on the wall, the majority of older originals have cracked so badly to? I didn't bother when they were just over one hundred to buy, certainly wouldn't bother now. Now the gas mask boy is a different story, stunning and worth having on the wall, who has a spare 100k.

Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by ABC on Jun 14, 2011 10:22:46 GMT 1, Come on, you're a fool for not buying a paranoid pictures at Β£100. It's ok most of us were fools but you look silly making up excuses now. And seriously, you're worried about cracks? Amazing how the fans of gritty urban art get all anal about their "collection." I think that statement is largely overstated here and even still many older works across the board have cracks, I would think it would be part of the charm on a Banksy. That's what you will have to deal with in almost all of Banksys works as he is a conservators nightmare. Come on. But lets all come back down to earth. It's easy to claim these will smash estimates when you're not bidding. But that monkey is tiny, 30k, I doubt it. Only a fool would pay that much for such a minor work. Gas Mask Boy over 100k!? Maybe, with a lot of luck.
I didn't say I didn't buy some works at Β£100, they look great, just not Paranoid Pictures I think it's poor. Just because it is by Banksy doesn't mean I would want it (unlike some). BANKSY is just like any other artist for me. I'm not buying for investment, I'm buying so I can hang it on the wall.
As for the "look silly making up excuses now" that's amusing considering what you do not know about my collection. A few members on here will know what I own with regards to BANKSY but thats how it will stay.

looks like itΒ΄s stenciled over an other painting and the reflection you see on the gas mask is from the original?
