Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by lee3 on Jan 20, 2012 18:24:59 GMT 1, Much nicer (to my eyes) Fetish lady over at Christie's day sale, which is not to suggest I don't adore that rat. Some incredible examples of Yves Klein, Fontana, Rotella, Freud, Bacon and Wesselmann on offer this go around with a surprising lack of Warhol (outside of the pink fright wig).

Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by iamzero on Jan 20, 2012 19:03:04 GMT 1, No way that is going for the guide price if the last one fetched around Β£175k and the one before that was something like Β£130k?
I have a great picture of me holding one of these bad boys and can honestly say if I had that much money to dispose of I would want to own one of these without question. Bring on the lottery numbers please.

Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by lee3 on Jan 20, 2012 20:01:44 GMT 1, >>>>No way that is going for the guide price if the last one fetched around Β£175k and the one before that was something like Β£130k?<<<
You're probably right as their job is to solicit interest and push that thing higher and I can't recall the last time something of his sold within an estimate range. Still, the high estimate is 200k sterling and that's a lot of coin for a 6 year old painting.
I am keeping a watchful eye on this piece below as I have a lot of respect for the brief period we call fauvism and its effect on contemporary art today. This is back when artists began painting trees purple and skies green and really toying with the elements of a composition. Way out of my league collection wise but I can at least admire and appreciate the work itself. The seller grabbed this just 3 years ago during the February '09 auctions when the world was coming to an end for a tad under 2MM GBP. They are looking to triple serious money in 3 years while (probably) laughing off any criticism of a flip. Meanwhile, the person who bought it in '08 and sold/flipped it in '09 was left with a loss exceeding 1MM GBP/nearly $3MM US. Timing is everything I suppose
Alexej Jawlensky Title MΓ€dchen mit roter Schleife (Girl with red ribbon) Description Painted in 1911. oil on board Medium oil on board Year of Work 1911 Size Height 28.1 in.; Width 19.7 in. / Height 71.5 cm.; Width 50 cm. Sale of Sotheby's London: Wednesday, February 08, 2012 [Lot 00036] Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale Estimate 3,000,000 - 5,000,000 GBP (4,660,556 - 7,767,593 USD) Provenance Dr E. Mayer, Wiesbaden (acquired from the artist in the 1920s) Private Collection (by descent from the above. Sold: Sotheby's, London, 4th December 1968, lot 80) Maurice & Vivienne Wohl, Switzerland (purchased at the above sale. Sold: Christie's, London, 4th February 2008, lot 4) Sale: Christie's, London, 4th February 2009, lot 29 Purchased at the above sale by the present owner Exhibition London, Roland Browse and Delbanco, 1958

I think you might be surprised at the result of the previous one from that edition that came to auction a few months ago (granted it had the tiniest touch of hand finishing):
Banksy Title Bronze rat Description It is the only sculpture from the edition to have acrylic paint on the Rat's brush. Medium bronze and acrylic Year of Work 2006 Size Height 9.8 in.; Width 11.8 in.; Depth 4.7 in. / Height 25 cm.; Width 30 cm.; Depth 12 cm. Edition ed. 12 Misc. Signed Sale of Sotheby's London: Friday, October 14, 2011 [Lot 00111] Contemporary Art Day Auction Estimate 50,000 - 70,000 GBP (79,038 - 110,654 USD) Sold For 163,250 GBP (258,061 USD) PREMIUM Provenance Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner
Similarly, one auctioned off a few years ago:
Banksy Title Bronze rat Description inscribed with the signature and dated 06 on the underside This work is from an edition of 12. Medium bronze Year of Work 2006 Size Height 10 in.; Width 12.5 in.; Depth 5 in. / Height 25.4 cm.; Width 31.8 cm.; Depth 12.8 cm. Edition ed.12 Misc. Inscribed Sale of Sotheby's London: Wednesday, July 02, 2008 [Lot 00437] Contemporary Day Sale Estimate 50,000 - 70,000 GBP (99,700 - 139,581 USD) Sold For 85,250 GBP (169,990 USD) PREMIUM Provenance Laz Inc., London

Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by Brushstrokes 75 on Apr 4, 2012 22:44:14 GMT 1, Even though it's not urban art and even though nobody on here would buy this one.
It is my favourite painting ever and for one to come up for sale is amazing!
There are only 4 copies of this painting with only this one in the hands of a private collection (Probably the biggest piece to ever hit the auction this year.
Loved the Warhol one at Sotheby's last week, so can't wait to be able to see this one!

Sotheby's Art Auctions β’ LONDON π¬π§, by Brushstrokes 75 on Apr 6, 2012 2:15:21 GMT 1, I do love when the estimates says "upon request" in the catalogue (when you have a Picasso worth 20/30 mill in the same catalogue).
I'm wondering about their security though. The 2 places who have the painting have already been robbed. Wondering the measures sotheby's will take to prevent a robbery.....
