Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by lee3 on Mar 15, 2016 18:32:42 GMT 1, Anyone know if that angel head passed or was withdrawn as I didn't watch the sale? I see the whole sale only did ~$4mm which is tiny but I'm surprised that didn't sell if it indeed did come under the hammer.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by vernaxley on Mar 16, 2016 15:01:46 GMT 1, Really ? May i ask which gallery please ? the one that some people don't want others to know they sell through, namely black rat
Mike Snelle at Black Rat was approached by Banksy after he parted ways with Steve Lazarides. Mike sold works for Banksy on the quiet for quite a while. Snelle is now one half of the Connor Brothers. I believe it's the rear half but don't quote me on that.

Pest Control sell through Black Rat? Why would they do that? Maybe they do... but seems pointless.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by Deleted on Mar 17, 2016 11:31:56 GMT 1, Did it fail to sell becuase small for that price? There are many reasons an artwork fails to sell at auction.
It could be that the price set was too high for buyers for this piece.
Or that it is based on a religious image and rich buyers are looking for the more typical Banksy style like rats or balloons or hoody figures etc to display next to their warhols and stuff.
People with money invest at auction but they can also be fussy about the image.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by Unica on Mar 23, 2016 12:43:44 GMT 1, I'm surprised this didn't sell, or was it withdrawn? Anybody know? I'd of thought this original would appear to be rather good value compared to a GWB or Kate, or one of the other more sought after prints. Its an original stencil, completed by the artist, its a wonderful example of overspray to finish off the look and an interesting provenance as part of the Central Park stand. Just seems odd that people will pay similar prices for signed prints and would pass on a more unique original.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by lee3 on Mar 23, 2016 17:22:21 GMT 1, It failed to sell which was somewhat surprising. I spoke with a sotheby's representative at the Laz show in Hong Kong on Tuesday night who confirmed it was still available. (...) available at what price (if you asked) ? Typically, the houses have 30 days post sale to illicit bids and sell at the reserve (which can be no higher than the low estimate (50 in this case which is ~62.5 with fees)). Often the reserve is lower than the low estimate by consignors just to generate a sale. I don't bid much at auction but I have been involved in instances previously where unsold works had more than one suitor post sale. In both cases, those works ended up selling for middle of the estimate range (not including premium) despite having been unsold at auction.
Regardless, this particular painting is no longer available (per phone a moment ago) so someone picked it post sale.

POW only ever sold prints so their client list can only stretch so far when it comes to the money the canvases now command. It's a classic case of an artist believing they are solely responsible for their own success.

One way to read into it. Another possibility is that the artist was sick of the games their dealer was playing with their (and others) careers and moved on. Regardless, the past now although one side of the relationship seems to keep hosting retrospectives for their divorcee which is odd.

No idea what went on, but I think the retrospectives are a case of Laz protecting his investments, not honouring his former partner.

Sotheby's Art Auctions โข LONDON ๐ฌ๐ง, by Harveyn on Apr 11, 2016 16:40:04 GMT 1, I am unable to comment on the size of Laz's client list capable of buying high end Banksy works compared to POW/PC's list. One thing I do know the later certainly has clients more than capable of these purchases.
Also collectors are more than capable of finding their own way to source these works if they choice to make that informed decision.
I am positive both parties will do just fine independent of each other or despite each other.

Point taken, but you said it was an odd situation, but I see nothing odd about an art dealer making money from selling art.
