Migrate Art - Scorched Earth, by Deleted on Sept 4, 2020 10:39:05 GMT 1, Interesting collection of artists on this project from Migrate Art.
news.artnet.com/market/scorched-earth-migrate-art-1905688
"For months now, tens of thousands of acres of arable land in Iraq have been turned to charred wastelands, ruining the crops that farmers rely on to make a living.
Despite some early Iraqi government reports indicating that the fires stemmed from natural occurrences and accidents, members of the ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility for at least a portion of the damage. Now a group of 14 international artists are coming together for an exhibition and charity auction organized by the UK-based organization Migrate Art to lend a hand.
The show and sale, titled “Scorched Earth,” stem from a visit that Migrate Art reps made in 2019 to Iraqi refugee camps, during which they saw the acres of ruined fields. The team gathered ashes from the sites and smuggled them out of the country in tea tins."
Includes work by Anish Kapoor, Conor Harrington, Rachel Whiteread and Shepard Fairey.

Migrate Art - Scorched Earth, by orchid on Nov 18, 2021 12:25:03 GMT 1, New Kapoor edition. £2500. Good buy given the silly prices some are paying for those Breathing Blue unsigned posters.

3000 for a signed Limited edition etching seems favourable and in-line with his primary, compared to an unsigned offset print for 2000

So just over 2k each.
Which reaffirms that breathing blue you cited for around 2k being ridiculous for an unsigned edition either way.

My point being that the post above stating that 3k for this new piece is “favourable” is not correct

I wonder then why you posted an unsigned result for 2000, which ironically is even more unfavourable than the signed set of 3 for 6250 you posted after 🤣

Migrate Art - Scorched Earth, by migrateart on Nov 22, 2021 14:50:51 GMT 1, Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. Our pricing has been set in collaboration with Anish Kapoor and his studio, and is very much in line with primary market prices for his work.
As has already been pointed out by a kind forum user, unsigned posters from Anish Kapoor are regularly selling for almost as much as this signed etching. We have worked with one of the best printers in the country for this edition and the quality is exceptional. The release is also raising funds for our three charity partners, which will go on to help thousands of displaced people across the world.
The isolated example you are giving of a 3 print bundle sold as part of a charity auction is not reflective of Anish Kapoor's overall market- if you trace back sales at Christie's, Sotheby's, Phillips or Artsy, you will see that this release is very much in line with Kapoor's market, and is indeed favourable in our pricing.
Feel free to give us an email at info@migrateart.com if you want to discuss further- we are always happy to have a chat.
Thanks so much x

I’m not sure the result I posted was a freak incident and to say so isn’t fair.
In any case my argument isn’t that this is badly priced, it looks extremely well made and produced by a world renowned artists and I would happily buy …but to say that an edition of kapoor of this size and signed at 3k incl vat is not above market value seems off to me
Feel free to show auction results below of edtions of a similar run and dimensions for over 3k
The fact that the OG of this piece as a one off sold for 12k before fees should tell anyone that the edtion isn’t cheap

In addition signed works in editions of 20 sell for £1500

Migrate Art - Scorched Earth, by migrateart on Nov 26, 2021 12:14:27 GMT 1, Hi thanks for your feedback.
As I am sure you know, a huge amount of work by Anish Kapoor has been sold at auction and on the secondary market, so I understand that you will be able to find some examples of piece that have sold at the lower end of his market. As with all artists, prices achieved at auction often depend on the desirability of the print- it could be suggested that the example you gave of the print selling at Christie's is one of his less desirable works. The number of sales the support our pricing far outweigh the sales that contradict it (please see links below)
I also think talking about auction prices pre-fees isn't that constructive, as the buyer ultimately pays the full price including fees.
There is a great example currently selling via auction on Artsy- similar size and medium, and is currently at $3,250 with 11 days left on the sale: www.artsy.net/artwork/anish-kapoor-untitled-2424
Here a few quick examples of prints selling in line with our pricing:
www.phillips.com/detail/anish-kapoor/UK030221/319 www.phillips.com/detail/anish-kapoor/UK030121/72 www.phillips.com/detail/anish-kapoor/NY030214/229 www.phillips.com/detail/anish-kapoor/UK010212/223 www.artsy.net/artwork/anish-kapoor-anish-kapoor-untitled www.artsy.net/artwork/anish-kapoor-breathing-blue-2029 www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2010/old-master-modern-contemporary-prints-l10160/lot.150.html www.christies.com/lot/lot-5056544 www.christies.com/lot/lot-5879128
I've always found this forum to be an unusual place, which is why you may see we have never really posted on here before. It seems to be fairly certain that there will be criticisms and negative comments made about any release or project, even with projects raising money for charity.
Whether you would like to buy this print or not is fine by us, it's your choice. We work hard to create interesting projects and raise money for very important causes. We have had a huge number of people show interest in the this work, so there are a lot of people out there that feel this print is priced well, and it will ultimately help thousands of people across the world who are facing very hard circumstances. I've personally worked for a decade in the art world and it is very easy to focus on pricing and auction records, and forget that there is a lot more urgent things happening in the world. We try to focus on these more important things and positively contribute in some way.
As always, please feel free to email me directly (sb@migrateart.com)- I am Simon, the founder and always happy to chat- feedback is extremely useful for us to improve in the future.
Thanks so much Simon
