Artist Price Crashes, by JockoLad on Sept 9, 2020 21:39:04 GMT 1, Is anyone able to give examples of artists who’ve picked up similar momentum to Banksy and then seen their market crash?
Lots of naysayers on here who refer regularly to an imminent market crash. I would genuinely be keen to see some lived examples.
I am no expert but I find it hard to see how art that commands increasingly high prices could suddenly lose value. Is it not getting to a point where there is too much to lose so everyone invested in the market will do their best to keep things going? I also cannot think of an artist with similar popular appeal on a global scale at present - but again, I am no expert.
Informed views most welcome and thanks for taking time to reply.

Most of it isn't sustainable in the long term and it will crash at gone point, the trick is holding the things that will sustain and no one knows what that will be. yes, almost all, ppl like hebru were not even selling hard 6months ago now look at his market, KAWS continues 2 rise, Banksy is on another lvl like if u got there early enough u can now fund your existence off his interest alone, n many others, both semi-known n world famous, ALL have gone up, some drastically so, some slightly but almost all collectible art has risen in price this year....
Can you share where i can find more about hebru’s pricing?
Have one really nice print from him and may cash in

Whilst Banksy held his exhibition within the Bristol Museum, would I be correct in saying that no major museums or institutions have purchased any of his work for their collections? I think Peckham Rock might be the exception - the original, not the postcard.

Artist Price Crashes, by medichead on Sept 10, 2020 8:54:52 GMT 1, Banksy is safe. His OG prices are at the point that the high net worth are paying attention and collecting. These same individuals are on the acquisition boards and donors to institutions, and these institutions cannot escape reflecting the taste of the wealthy.
In my opinion, his place in art history is largely cemented.

Didn’t crash. Slight drop perhaps but held pretty well all things considered.
BONGO’s advice back then was to hold on. How right he was. A sage greatly missed from this forum.

Jeremy Geddes prices definitely started softening as he moved towards timed releases rather than limited edition ones.

Most contemporary art auction results by young artists are manipulated to some degree. I would be careful how much you allow them to influence your moves.

But seriously, with Street Art/Urban Art just buy stuff you like on the wall. If you can sell it later awesome. But it's only going up if a celebrity buys it and shows it off on instagram, and even then it'll only be for a few years.
These guys are pumping out over priced art too quickly.

I like it! Having bought my prints back in the day I’m in a similar situation as I only stand to lose hundreds if the market completely tanks. As I’ve said before, absolute worst case scenario is I have some art on my wall that I can tell a story about and an expensive doormat to wipe my feet on. Also have a great supply of postcards to be sending people.
