I always think of him as the Banksy for 12 years olds.

fatigued is probably the best word...and yes, i feel people will get badly fatigued by all this Iraq-related art, cliches(che, grenades, etc.), the world-is-melting, etc.
after a while, it becomes less and less moving and more and more a painful memory that most want forgotten, not on their walls.
The days of this type of art getting prime gallery slots, selling expensive prints, etc. are numbered. When they end, the limelight will end for many of the current artists focused on here. There was a great line I read in a book yesterday, talking about the NYC Gallery meltdown of the late 1980's/early 1990's....it said something like, "of all the 1000 artists who put on important gallery shows in the 1980's, maybe 15 have a secondary market these days." It is a different art world these days, especially with the internet and all, but some of the old rules still apply.

If you knew about the TV stuff coming up you may not be saying that so much.
One of the things which has been confirmed by D* is that Ewan McGregor has a pair of d*face wings on his BMW badge on his bike travelling to South Africa for tv. Just that alone will get loads of attention. Plus i think D* is getting some celeb collectors as well by the looks of things.
By the way, ewan mcgregor is winning the facelift contest.
You cant compare everyone to banksy, its silly to do that. Banksy is getting slightly tedious at the moment - even though we are on the banksy forum - not many people really talk about him much.

Nah, I'd say it's completely different these days. The artists featured here go back to maybe 91/92..Twist, Mcgee, Spike Jonze, Ed templeton, The mission school, the mistakists.. etc etc.. it's got it's own history and controls it's own means of production. It's so tied into pop culture, fashion, vinyl, toys, clothing lines, stickers, skateboards.. the works. People learned a lot from the 80s, Haring and Futura 2000 etc.. This is a new generation who control what and when they show and they're not affraid of breaking boundaries..
The 80's was just a bunch of traditional gallery knobs sticking graffiti onto canvas and into swanky galleries to sell to monied clients..the work didn't work.. on trains it's cool, it has context.. on canvas.. well. It's just a name..(as someone once said). The new school work is so much more diverse and isn't affraid of taking on the gallery space with whatever it takes.. installations, sculpture, performance, paintings, music, drawing, photography, video.. the lot.
This second wave with Faile, Bast, Swoon, Fairey, Banksy etc.. it's just the beginning. A new generation pciking up where Beautiful Losers left off. It's here to stay..It's not even a scene or a movement. It just is.

Banksy's Kate Moss at least had a cultural ironic reference.
But a half skull, half Monroe face with wings is just meaningless nonsense. It's also like he is in the mind set of ..errr.. well if I include a skull , a set of wings and a Warhol reference, then hopefully it will look cool?

It is acceptalbe for a 36 year old man to own an Ian Francis, Barry Mcgee, Phil Frost, or dread to say it ..maybe D*'s main inspiration...Kaws???

They are all contemporary. I am not going to mention any artists but i would rather have some d*face stuff up to make the place feel a friendly place rather than some boring shit which looks like it has been painted by a 5 year old.

look up dface on ebay in the completed items - think that recent pop tart prints and what wars are for are currently going for the same amount as a banksy flag.
I don't understand why you are so amazed for, its been going on for years.
Infact the green pop tart was unsold at ยฃ800 as the reserve was not met. Could have been dodgy, but i dont know. All i know is my house is full of d*face and every bit looks amazing and everyone talks about it when they come around. Even a colleague who is 30 years senior is into it. Its for all ages and is fairly accessible to everyone - even if you do have to stand in line for 5 hours.

Its a 10x12 sticker of the River Watcher character that he made famous b/c of his street art. It's an original drawn sticker, you can see the marker strokes, that has a DFace signature on it as well. It was a piece that the original owner found on a street sign in the streets of New York, and was able to carefully remove it and placed it on cardboard to mount it. Like i said about this piece in another thread, I consider this to be some of the best street art to own. Imagine owning a wall that Banksy put up some work on? I plan on getting it professionaly framed so that the cardboard is hidden and you will only be able to see the art.
