DFace ๐ฌ๐ง D*Dog โข Street Art โข Print Release News, by jboy on Aug 6, 2007 23:23:12 GMT 1, This piece would be considered an original right? Its a 10x12 sticker of the River Watcher character that he made famous b/c of his street art. It's an original drawn sticker, you can see the marker strokes, that has a DFace signature on it as well. It was a piece that the original owner found on a street sign in the streets of New York, and was able to carefully remove it and placed it on cardboard to mount it. Like i said about this piece in another thread, I consider this to be some of the best street art to own. Imagine owning a wall that Banksy put up some work on? I plan on getting it professionaly framed so that the cardboard is hidden and you will only be able to see the art.
Not really - i saw this on the US ebay and did not bid as it all looked a bit strange.
An original would need provenance otherwise its pretty much worthless - i know how much you bought this for and it may be worth twice or three times that in years to come, but its not an original.
Sorry - im sure im not the only person to think this.

DFace ๐ฌ๐ง D*Dog โข Street Art โข Print Release News, by finsburyparkranger on Aug 6, 2007 23:28:01 GMT 1, Do you think people will get sick of the whole politically, enviromentally etc induced work?
Nope I don't think so. Although as this generation of new art lovers matures, i would expect people to want to enjoy more subtlety and depth to their art. Also this audience will become more rigorous in its appreciation of technique particularly regarding aesthetics of the piece.

So even though it is hand drawn, that does not make it original? What would I need to do to get provenance? Could this be authenticated and by whom? What made it look so strange to you? Sorry for all the questions......... I bought it from a reputable seller on Ebay, so I don't question its authenticity. I just want to get it authenticated so there is no doubt in the future.

Sorry if you misunderstood - im not saying its not original, im sure that is it. Its just if you ever want it to be more than than just a sticker found and put onto cardboard you would need a letter or email of provenance from a dealer or the artist himself. As far as i remember the guy who sold this stuck it to cardboard himself - it was not found like that.
Its a nice thing to have and im sure it will look very cool though. Not all art is for money remember that - i would be proud to have that as well to stick up on the wall as something neat

i get the feeling he maybe does not understand the concept that this is expensive stuff - its not just getting a quick thing drawn up - they are hard to find and most things will be sold before any joe public get to them.
good luck to him anyway!

DFace ๐ฌ๐ง D*Dog โข Street Art โข Print Release News, by Harveyn on Aug 7, 2007 7:50:29 GMT 1, Richardface - So this is low brow, nonsense for immature teenagers or 12 year olds.
Question does art always have to have a deep routed meaning or can it just be stimulating through imagery alone?
Not you taste fine but this 40 year old likes it (maybe I am trying to recapture my youth). ;D ;D ;D
Thank you and good night

DFace ๐ฌ๐ง D*Dog โข Street Art โข Print Release News, by Photoxtc on Aug 7, 2007 8:24:06 GMT 1, that is lovely harveyn and the frame is perfect for that canvas.....
I'll post some pictures of my immature D* Face originals as well mate...
Saying one can be too old for certain types of art is probably one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.... pretty sad when you feel as if you're too old to enjoy something....that cork must be way up there and really tight.....
GOD help me if I ever feel that way and someone from the board shoot me if I ever say anything that remotely comes close to that closed minded type of thinking!!!

DFace ๐ฌ๐ง D*Dog โข Street Art โข Print Release News, by runningdog on Aug 7, 2007 10:57:05 GMT 1, [rant] I'm still choking on my tea after reading that you shouldn't own a D* once you pass 30. I'm going to have to offload 6 prints and 2 originals pronto, as I hit that milestone the other day. Or maybe I won't? You sir are a moron, and clearly on the wrong forum. Street art appeals to everyone, not just ponces like yourself who are obsessed with their own supposed maturity. D*Face's stuff, when seen in the flesh, looks totally f**king fly, end of story. D*Face has been working for years and he's stuck, sprayed and screenprinted stuff onto city walls worldwide. He draws whatever the f**k he wants to, and most of the time it's big cartoon characters. He doesn't try to cater for tastes or trends, he's his own man. A lot of the hype generated on this forum is around artists (who I won't name) with virtually no street presence, and they're the ones who will be a flash in the pan, not a giant like D*Face. Someone had a problem with him doing a warhol-style print. Is it original? no - but most artists have played around with Warhol's style at some point. Paul Insect seems to have taken the idea to new levels... [/rant]
Edit: the care he takes over his work should be a lesson to all. He personally put about 2000 stitches in this beauty, currently entertaining anyone who walks into my house:

Don't qoute me on it but if you see the comments book you can't miss it. ;D

Just checked his website, bookcases, wallets and designer pillows?! I always think of him as the Banksy for 12 years olds. Infact I don't even know why I'm bothering to type so much about him! cringeworthy on a good day, cliched on a bad day IMO
Agreed! Dface is blatantly milking the bloated cash cow that pulls the Banksy bandwagon. If I were to compare those two artists to bands then Banksy would be Oasis and Dface would be Shed7.

You need to do some research, because post like that simply serve to show how ignorant you are on the subject you're writing

We have a lot of Art Critics here, and I mean that very much as an insult. These are basically Graffiti artists. These guys have always 'borrowed' each other's styles, right from the beginning. Look at all the NY graf from the 80s, all the train writers - show me someone who's completely original. Nobody is. Even Banksy got the idea of stencilling from other artists, particularly Blek le Rat. The fact that nobody works in a vacuum is part of the heritage of the whole scene. Maybe I'll start a thread claiming that Neate is wack because he's just ripped off Bacon and then sold out? People make names for themselves by being hugely prolific, and developing their own styles. And criticizing any artist for selling merchandise is a joke. Everyone has to make a living, and if that means selling a few cushions to the Japanese, so fucking what? How about some of the Art Critics here turn off the laptop and attempt some decent artwork, see how far you get with that.

WHAT? You're telling me Shed7 sold more records than Oasis? I think it's you that needs to do the research.

No, I'm telling you that you know a lot more about Shed7 and Oasis than you do about Banksy and Dface, hence the lame analogy you came up with. D's been producing work on the street around the world and staging some of the most exciting graf related shows (Finders Keepers etc) long before the word Banksy became common currency.

i'd argue that Blu is highly original.... just look at the pure scale of his street works, the intricasy and his style. I can't see comparisons with anyone else before him. Correct me if I'm wrong though!

There are others who do similar work, Sam3 for example, who's worked with Blu I think. And they didn't get their ideas out of nowhere. Maybe they used to read Edward Gorey books as kids?
