Street art and fund managers , by tab1 on Sept 21, 2020 23:47:38 GMT 1, Certainly wasn’t talking about you jocko; didn’t mean for it to seem that way. Anyone on here who is a member from pre-2011 generally gets a pass from me. Hmm 2015 that's you in trouble I'm sure someone will be along soon to flip you a pass
Nope , fairly sure around / after 2015 mostly gone down hill, most members joining around then were flipping and annoyed their profits were gone as they were late to the party and the bubble would burst and adamant they could buy in the following year😂

Street art and fund managers , by coller on Sept 21, 2020 23:47:58 GMT 1, there have always been flippers here. it is obvious that they are more prevalant now, and that the average user cares more about profiteering than art. and the influx of 'market types' who are incessantly shooting off auction results and trying to inflate values has clearly snowballed in recent years. it seems like the norm now, not an exception to. its pretty easy to tell when looking at what ppl decide to post threads about. seems like these days its about 70% auction recap posts, 15% posts about some mediocre artist someone is trying to pump for profit, 10% for sale posts, and 5% posts about art news. If you have time , read some posts from 2006 , it was the same back then and unfortunately will always be , profit If this mania was not prevalent as you describe the artist would not have made the auction results in the early days This all started from the print market Just the uptrend comes in vast increase of financial worth of cycles every few years urbanartassociation.com/thread/81728/banksy-pricesurbanartassociation.com/thread/81486/weep you know better.

Old members were like mini galleries/ art dealers , constantly flipping banksys
Most are deleted members now , could not blame them , some selling over 20 prints and happy at the time making £200-400 on each print if they still had them now , the collection would be over a million gdp 😵logging in and constantly seeing the market changing daily👀😫

Street art and fund managers , by coller on Sept 22, 2020 0:31:05 GMT 1, i agree there have always been the flipper/market types. but there also used to be a good counterbalance of a fan/collector community that was not there for profit and enjoyed talking about art and fanning out over new pieces or events.
i have a lot of good memories from 2012-2016 in here.

From old posts looks like silky flipped a lot of banksys below £1000😵
Prices may be manipulated in the market at present , if the Russian art buyers get into the market then these latest prices would seem tame

Street art and fund managers , by dirtypete on Sept 22, 2020 9:44:39 GMT 1, I stopped browsing this forum for about 8 years, as I got bored of new releases that I loved being snapped up only to be flipped. Rightly or wrongly I’ve never brought any art other than source so I floated off and collected other things, as there’s a whole wide world of other collectibles to scratch that itch that most forum members have.
I started visiting the site again after following the sadly removed new release thread, as it threw up some incredible finds (the Keith Harring and Lichtenstein being the best).
The odds of my getting a new Banksy print are now slim, but I do think this forum does still throw up some great information and was great for finding timed editions during lockdown.
I find the recent discussion on people selling their art refreshingly open. Everyone has a price and no one could’ve predicted the recent crazy results (apart from Lvl90120 🤫)
Hopefully we’ll all get the chance to buy some of the stuff we want. If you love the image I have no issues with WCP print. I know these are hated by many of the forum, but at least you can get 95% of the benefit for 1% of the cost.

I was lucky enough to spot him before wall and piece was published. Anyhow bought our house and had such a laugh with the rest, so won’t forget that when I did sell I was over the moon and managed to keep a few favourites 🤩🥳

I probably had over 40 prints bought and sold from 2006-2012.
I thankfully have a nice bunch of signed prints I care about which when the time comes will sort me out, but if I had kept everything I would have a few million I suspect of prints.

Too many people torture themselves for selling things too early, but no one ever went bust taking a profit!
The idea that you can buy a house and fun money by trading bits of paper is ridiculous if you think about it.
I spotted him early but was a broke student. To be honest I’d probably only of brought a few more prints, as most of my money was wisely spent getting wasted and having fun.
