Not sure what proof of ownership you can have? You painted someone’s wall, good work by the way! Tag it, take lots of process pics etc. Keep it up! More people should paint walls rather than going straight to the trying to sell canvases with badly done stencils route. Kudos

This is the correct answer.
Get your friend with zero art talent to look after your art work.

Thank you very much

Get a French guy to follow you around and make sure he films everything.

In my experience there are few artists who will claim responsibility for someone else’s work, perhaps the odd toy being an exception, but they are soon shown to be liars based on their other pieces. Stencils is a touch harder, people can use the same source image as you and a question of biting will be raised, see the gagnon/banksy praying boy image for example, and obviously so many are done in the style of banksy that identity mistakes are made, for example jps and banksy...... If you have a strong piece and other pieces which are equally strong then you will get known, no need to worry about it imo, just keep it up and paint walls.
Again, lots of pics will help.
There was recently a case of street artists campaigning against boohoo for shooting adverts in front of street art without permission from the artists, but I’m unsure as to the legalities of it all, or the outcome I’m afraid.

Even painting on walls has got complicated!

Proof of ownership??, by cedarts on Sept 23, 2020 10:03:30 GMT 1, Take photos of your work on the street and of your process, images etc and post them to yourself in a tamperproof envelope. Done This is called "poor man's copyright" and this doesnt work, it s a myth.
There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration

Proof of ownership??, by Carl Cashman Art on Sept 23, 2020 10:10:03 GMT 1, Just keep making work, unless someone steals your name and makes future work under it, you have no problems.
If you want to monetize it, just start selling via a shop.
If you have no desire to sell it, just keep making it for fun.
In the history or street art, I've never heard of someone's name being stolen and people producing new work under it.
I like your optimism, but im not sure you have to worry about becoming as big as banksy .

Proof of ownership??, by avec art on Sept 23, 2020 10:26:10 GMT 1, they might not go as far as steal your name, but if it's any good and sells they will steal your image or idea. You'll probably need to keep making more to stay ahead of the game.
