Art Insurance in USA, by johnerotten on May 5, 2007 19:13:40 GMT 1, anyone know of good affordable art insurance for a renter in Los Angeles?
how do i determine how much to insure a Sepia Morons?
i broke the bank buying the print and had to get another credit card to have it framed/insured.
i want the insurance to cover theft and damage from water/fire/EARTHQUAKE.
should i go with plexiglass instead of glass on the frame in case a quake knocks her down?
any help would be appreciated.
cheers

Art Insurance in USA, by eldukerman 212 on Jun 29, 2020 15:23:45 GMT 1, hello-
I remember seeing a thread on this a while back but cannot find it. does anyone have a good art insurer that they would recommend? another question - I had an appraisal for a lot of my work from Heritage from 2 years ago but I've added quite a few pieces since then and don't really want to pay for another appraisal. do most insurers require an official appraisal on ALL work? any help is appreciated!

Art Insurance in USA, by Elephants and Castles on Sept 21, 2020 21:38:29 GMT 1, Hey, I've used and recommended this company before:
www.artresourcegroup.com/
They'll actually work with you on price per piece if you do a bit of leg work for them with photos, paper trail etc. Miriam and Nora are the 2 ladies I worked with.

Art Insurance in USA, by cest on Sept 24, 2020 1:51:15 GMT 1, At 8K I didn't feel that us wsm was worth insuring...
I have State Farm Insurance, does anybody use them (or another big name) and add some sort of rider to their home owners? or should I got a house that specializes on insuring art?
Finally, without an auction proving the value of wsm, how do I get the insurace co to match a valuation to what I think it is (around 30k usd)?
Thanks!

Art Insurance in USA, by therivler1 on Sept 24, 2020 4:10:01 GMT 1, hang up will do an insurance appraisal they state farm should accept. I have travelers, and actually just checked with state farm last week about switching. Travelers was cheaper for me, but if you only have one print, it wouldn't pay to switch. You may not need a special rider if all your assets are below the personal property max (homeowners will be higher than renters). But over $5k, you will need it to be a line item, and they would want an appraisal.

Is that how it works, are there alternatives people can recommend?
Kinda liked the idea of going somewhere personally but maybe Iโm way off... based in LA if anyone has suggestions.
Will check out both insurers recommended as Iโm in the same boat.

Art Insurance in USA, by 88carrera on Oct 30, 2020 20:27:39 GMT 1, I donโt have any pieces worth insuring myself, but Iโve helped client with art insurance on numerous occasions. AIG, Chubb, Ace, and more recently, Cincinnati Insurance Company have all done policies for us. On large collections it reliably works out to 0.1% of the workโs value annually. The insurers do ask for updated appraisals periodically, but in a fast-moving market like Banksy currently, Iโd suggest appraisals more often than required or youโll be quickly under-insured.
If you work regularly with a gallery you might ask them for a letter with market values for your pieces. Some will do this as a favor for valued repeat clients and it can work in lieu of an appraisal. I havenโt had to deal with any losses, however, so Iโm not sure how such a value would stand up then.

Art Insurance in USA, by Icecream Man on Jan 22, 2021 0:20:44 GMT 1, In the middle of the process now ~ new homeowners policy. Iโll follow up once complete. Allstate had no problem adding pieces that were sub $20k with a replacement doc from an Urban/Contemporary gallery. About to transfer some larger value pieces from a separate (business) umbrella policy to the same homeowners policy. Still working out the details.
Send me a PM if youโd like any additional info.

Art Insurance in USA, by pjc on Oct 27, 2022 20:52:43 GMT 1, Hi All โ
Need art insurance advice for a friend. Guidelines would be art that is worth more to ship than the piece itself to art in the mid to high six figures, but not 7+.
They are U.S. based, as am I, so some questions are U.S. specific, but other questions are more general.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
1. How should they think about what should/should not be insured (is there an analytical approach to this)?
2. Is there a general guideline for what to insure vs. what the art is worth?
3. Are there outcomes for which insurance can not be bought / does not cover that should be highlighted?
4. Is art always insured on a piece by piece basis or can you bundle?
5. What challenges have members faced when going through this process?
6. Knowing what you know now, what would you change about the process or how you approached the process?
7. Are there those who 'do not believe in art insurance'? Is there a sound argument for this?
8. Is there a 'minimum' level of insurance vs. none at all that makes sense?
9. How specifically is the value of a piece determined? Do some policies just go by what was paid initially for the piece? Does insurance cover replacement value?
9. Does art insurance vary state by state?
10. What U.S. based companies have people used? Friend has USAA for other insurance products.
11. Is there any further reading you would recommend?
Thanks in advance.

Art Insurance in USA, by Wearology on Jul 1, 2024 23:21:42 GMT 1, Rampart insurance specializes in art insurance and they are extremely reliable and very familiar with realistic costs of urban art. If you have a lot of art and can't itemize it all, than you could get what they call an umbrella policy that covers your art as a whole instead of individual works. If your collection is very expensive and consists of multiple works, then get the art appraised first by an accredited company like Heritage and then provide those numbers to the insurance company. You can send me a DM if you need further help.
