Kaws What Party Sweepstake in support of Free Arts NYC, by Riotcops on Sept 28, 2020 15:28:36 GMT 1, It does clearly state on the site That no purchase is necessary to win How does that work? Its essentially illegal to run a lottery (where an entry costs money) in most places even if it's for charity. The workaround is to always state "No purchase necessary" and there is always an alternate way to enter. I'm always reminded of when McDonalds did those Monopoly prizes. People were going every day buying food trying to get Boardwalk and Park Place which would automatically enter you into a chance to win the prize money, all the while the fine print stated you could enter for free by mailing a letter.

Kaws What Party Sweepstake in support of Free Arts NYC, by Riotcops on Sept 28, 2020 15:30:54 GMT 1, valued at 250k. so winner pays ~100k in taxes? Ha does that apply on non-cash winnings in the states? In Canada all winnings are tax free.
In the FAQ - "Taxes and fees, if any, are the sole responsibility of the Winner."

Kaws What Party Sweepstake in support of Free Arts NYC, by coller on Sept 28, 2020 16:03:15 GMT 1, my understanding is the free entry is limited to one per person
"To Enter for Free: To enter without donating, visit the Campaign Page here freeartsnyc.rallyup.com/kaws and scroll to the bottom to view the โAlternate Method of Entryโ link. Click on the link to generate your free entry form and mail it per the instructions provided. Limit of one mail-in entry per person/household for each Sweepstakes."
anyone who wins this is on the hook for 100k+ in taxes, from what i can tell. still a net benefit, i suppose, but categorically changes the nature of the contest.
you are essentially winning the right to buy a kaws painting for ~150k below market value, but you're still paying six figures.
