Framing prints w/hand deckle edge, by mas on Sept 29, 2020 16:53:58 GMT 1, Hey all, any advice on how to frame prints with hand deckle edge? I have at lease two that I wanna frame but I don't know if use a double glass or something like matt in different color to show better the borders. Thank you

Framing prints w/hand deckle edge, by Charlie Bronson on Sept 30, 2020 22:20:16 GMT 1, Float it with photo corners. Don’t let the farmer talk you into an adhesive of any sort, tape etc that touches the print. The only way to go is photo corners. Print doesn’t touch any adhesive that way. That is, unless you’re fine with some minor blemishes/damage to the print.

Framing prints w/hand deckle edge, by Charlie Bronson on Sept 30, 2020 23:07:41 GMT 1, photo corners would be visible, archival tape, and if you need to remove it there is a stuff you use which is better than water, name escapes me atm but with a little patience can remove tape with no residue whatsoever. I anyone is interested I can have a look at the gallery tomorrow what it is called
There’s a good chance archival tape will leave a mark after being taped to the print, exposed to sun, heat etc for ten years+. Photo corners are visible, but imho a small sacrifice for peace of mind.

Zest-it? That's what I've used before and it's brilliant stuff

Framing prints w/hand deckle edge, by Amber Halo on Sept 30, 2020 23:34:00 GMT 1, I may have a little OCD, but the photo corners drive me nuts... visible and then they seem to catch the light and reflect, too, which is a distraction.
I'd float mount something with deckled edges w/ japanese paper hinges and starch.

Framing prints w/hand deckle edge, by Reader on Oct 1, 2020 9:37:16 GMT 1, thats it Terryfuckwit ! needs a little patience, put a bit on ..wait..peel gently...bit more on..wait..peel gently.. but gets everything off and leaves no trace, the mark from the liquid evaporates completely. also very useful trick...have this for nothing guys! when floating a print on heavy paper, make a cut through the backboard so the tape can stick to the reverse of the board..go through the slit and onto the reverse of the print. otherwise the weight can pull on the fold of the tape and eventually pull it off. make the cut at 45 degree angle so it is easy to open up to get the tape through. Id do a drawing... solid advice !

Id do a drawing... I only have limited DIY framing experience but I agree with this. Pass through hinges are the way to go with floating, especially when shadow mounting on foamcore.
Atom, out of curiosity when floating do you tape at the top only or also at the bottom?
I tend to use pass through hinges at the top only and then have used a weaker 'v' or 'z' hinge at the base to stop the print flapping around.

Yeah, it's good stuff. I tried it on a few types of papers and tapes and it hasn't let me down yet.

Framing prints w/hand deckle edge, by Schrödinger's Chat on Oct 16, 2020 13:25:01 GMT 1, There was that other fella Kevin Peterson, who did the Red Hot Chili Peppers album cover, had a similar style to Josh Keyes as well.
