I shamelessly paid for that Patreon and lurking in the group chat, but also several blue chip galleries in LA and Europe are offering me great advice.

Artorious, surely you don't need the financial incentives in making your 'advise' open to all.

Who Are the Heavyweight Hype Art Advisors? , by artylang on Oct 23, 2020 14:39:26 GMT 1, art advisors dont want to move your hype trash. real art advisers build long term collections and dont deal with day trading types. Past that, you gotta form your own tastes fam, youre just buying hot trash that no one will want down the line and id assume has no real connection to who you are as a person. Glad youve got cash to burn, but youre playing a game youll never win and embarassing yourself as you go. May sound harsh but its the truth. Go to a museum and write down what you like, then go on etsy and be a real hero to artists who are trying to make it with all that cash. Go support artists that need it, stop buying luxury goods for likes.

Who Are the Heavyweight Hype Art Advisors? , by Lord Lucas Roham on Oct 23, 2020 14:55:56 GMT 1, Tesla has been viewing too many Artorious007 posts on IG and has decided to dump his cartoon 'hype' art collection comprising of Murakami, Abloh?, Arsham, Kaws (of course) and Hebru Brantley and is now chasing the most formulaic of 'blue chip' art like Kruger and Kawara.
Why not buy some Eddie Martinez and Jonas Wood? Spend $1m. Feel better about yourself. Only $5k for the advice. I can give you a head massage also.

Who Are the Heavyweight Hype Art Advisors? , by sfnyc on Oct 23, 2020 16:58:29 GMT 1, Most of artorious advice on who to buy are boring, dead or irrelevant imo. The dude is right in trashing commercial artists but also has zero inisght or vision on avant guarde and new artists if they don't have an MFA or showed with his fav gallery. Its just a dude sharing basic professional advice and perspective and everyone is like omg so much insight ๐คฆโโ๏ธ. If you listened to his artist recommendation 10 years ago you would be lucky to break even and would not even outperform any market benchmarks....

Bro you hit the home run with this remark, I cannot appreciate your straightforward advice enough, I learnt my lessons and am still learning, thanks a lot.

Who Are the Heavyweight Hype Art Advisors? , by medichead on Oct 23, 2020 17:13:31 GMT 1, Sounds like your taste is going to change quite a lot over the next year or so, I know mine has and still does.
On that basis, maybe try and purchase 1 large ($50-100k) piece per year? Hedge your bets with the market (some weak evening sales recently) and your taste evolution.

Bro you hit the home run with this remark, I cannot appreciate your straightforward advice enough, I learnt my lessons and am still learning, thanks a lot. Re-reading that I came a bit harsh, but glad you were able to listen. We all made mistakes through our journey of collecting, all on different scales. The chase can be fun, but the conversations and relationships are really where the gold is. And I dont mean with gallery directors, I mean with the artists. Art is great because you get out of it what you put in, and that has nothing to do with dollars. There is a lot to be down about regarding the art world (greed, nepotism, deception, luxury goods being paraded as cultural icons) and a lot to seek out. Everyone looks for different things and is moved by different things. Figure out what you want to live with for 10 or 20 years and be able to talk about why you feel that way and you will find this hobby much more enjoyable and not be looking to shuffle works so frequently. Try to set goals or limits to your buying. If you know you are committed to only buying 5 works a year, you put a lot more consideration into what you bring home. Good luck, youre in an envious position with that bank roll.

Bro you hit the home run with this remark, I cannot appreciate your straightforward advice enough, I learnt my lessons and am still learning, thanks a lot. I'm actually taken aback by your gracious response here...I was expecting this conversation to devolve into a feces throwing contest but the fact that you took this as earnest (albeit pointedly worded) advice says a lot about you. All good.
On a much smaller scale, I found collecting art infinitely more enjoyable when I stopped chasing the hottest print drops and started reaching out to artists I liked on instagram and building a 1 on 1 relationship. There was so much less pressure on myself to not miss a drop and it allowed me to figure out what I really like. I've cleared a good bit of the stuff I originally bought out of my collection, culled the herd considerably, and now have a handful of relationships with artists who I really respect and enjoy supporting.
You have the cash to make a massive difference in the career of numerous artists. Some will make it, most will not, but regardless you will build your own reputation as doing it for the right reasons which in and of itself will open doors.
That said, if you're simply looking for a way to launder or hide money, ignore my advice.

Who Are the Heavyweight Hype Art Advisors? , by brycepen on Nov 3, 2020 7:25:22 GMT 1, Hype art = produced by insufferable fashion house collaborators and loved by grown men that put toys on shelves in their living rooms. I own none of these kaws or many vynils that come out, but EVERYTIME I see the grown men and toys comment I think of the old timer in my family that collected baseball cards and stamps through his late 40's, something that at the time was for kids...his wife loves all the trips, house on the hills in south america and the life they paid for when he started cashing in early 2000's...comments parallel to early 2000s about Banksy "art prints"...
Are baseball cards still that valuable though? Me and my brothers collected them like crazy as kids. There was even a baseball card down the street run by a lovely old man who knew all of us kids In the neighborhood. The shop closed down and was replaced with a store that sold pogs when pogs was the new big thing with kids. History repeats itself.
