Best way to sell a Banksy print?, by wow on Oct 21, 2020 9:45:52 GMT 1, Any thoughts on what the best way to sell a Banksy print is these days? As a seller I am hoping to get a good price and a smooth deal.
Sell private on this forum, through an auctionhouse (which one?), eBay or gallery?
All suggestions on this thread or on PM is much appreciated!

As a seller I am hoping to get a good price and a smooth deal. Sell private on this forum, through an auctionhouse (which one?), eBay or gallery? All suggestions on this thread or on PM is much appreciated! I would only go auction house to sell a Banksy print. You'll pay a fee but you'll almost always achieve a higher price that you would anywhere else. I've only sold one Banksy print. Originally I consigned it with a London gallery and they didn't have any interested buyers in 3 months. They were perfectly nice but didn't seem very proactive. I then sold it at Christies and it made well above the price the gallery suggested.
Christies or Sotheby's should be first port of call when selling, but I imagine they might be oversubscribed with sellers these days. Found both to be really helpful and lovely to deal with.
It's mad to me that people sell such expensive pieces on here, but each to their own. Personally, I would be far too worried about dealing with such huge amounts of money on an anonymous forum. To me, the percentage an auction house takes is worth it for both peace of mind and the higher level of buyer interest they can bring.

Best way to sell a Banksy print?, by Winter on Oct 21, 2020 10:51:13 GMT 1, Problem with an auction house is you often have to commit months in advance then wait for another month to get your money. Selling a Banksy can be pretty easy and quick. Depends how quickly you need the Monet.

Best way to sell a Banksy print?, by JAlternatión on Oct 21, 2020 11:06:24 GMT 1, Depends very much what print it is.... huge difference between the value of them. I sold one through the forum recently and would recommend that, but it was on the lower end of the market. Be aware of the low-ballers and just ignore them. Any of the most sought after prints would be best through auction house. Definitely not through ebay.

If we're talking editioned prints, as opposed to posters or the GDP giveaways, you're still talking, what, £30k on the low end? A lot of money to be dealing with on a forum sale.

Bank transfer in the bank with both parties and the print present has worked for me several times. You need to do this at those prices anyway due to limits on online transfers

No offence to anyone on the forum, but I don't know anyone here nearly well enough to do a deal like that.

No offence to anyone on the forum, but I don't know anyone here nearly well enough to do a deal like that. There's a good trades with post that can help, as well as looking at a buyer/sellers history. You can ask for scans of driving licences if you're concerned. Ultimately you end up in a bank and don't hand over the item until the transfer goes through as the seller, and don't transfer the money unless you're happy as the buyer. A bank is so covered in security that you should feel comfortable.
If not, go to an auction house, or even speak to a gallery about them consigning it and negotiate VERY hard on percentages, but you won't maximise value that way

Best way to sell a Banksy print?, by wow on Oct 21, 2020 17:42:39 GMT 1, Thanks to everyone!
I didn’t expect that many PMs about what work I am selling, price etc. I think I have answered you all.
The auction houses seems to take around 10-11% +++. I think it’s a big cut, and you don’t know what the hammer will be in the end. I have not decided how i will sell my Banksy so still open for all advices and experience you may have from earlier sales true this forum, gallery’s, auctions etc.
Btw: I have had a couple of messages trying to talk down the work I own. “I can be kind to buy it from you... no one really wants it...” - I don’t fall for this. Hope no one falls for this kind of ****. Always check the prices at different sources.

I find that to be very odd behaviour. With prices as they are and the very point of the thread being how to sell best given the sums involved, some chancers would downplay value?
Fking weird.

Every big ticket item i've sold has had them rear their heads. Conversely, there are some truly wonderful people on here who are more interested in being fair than anything else.
