Doron Langberg New Edition Thursday 29th October, by ignition0 on Oct 29, 2020 16:22:19 GMT 1, I guess the subject matter is too controversial for some. Doesn’t seem to be selling very fast. Looking forward to receiving mine. He is an ace painter.

Doron Langberg New Edition Thursday 29th October, by qwerty on Oct 29, 2020 21:28:37 GMT 1, Absolutely love his art and this print. I've spent way too much lately to justify 1500 but I know I'll kick myself at some point for not buying.

I think it’s a beautiful, fine print and one of the better editions they’ve offered in a while (and I’m a straight male, for what it’s worth).
Realistically, I’m not going to put this up at home/office and I don’t like buying things and keeping in sleeves for investment value, so it was an easy decision not to purchase. But that doesn’t stop me appreciating it for what it is. The image/subject matter may make some people feel a bit uncomfortable, but, to me at least, that’s why it’s a good piece of art.

Doron Langberg New Edition Thursday 29th October, by medichead on Oct 30, 2020 14:33:27 GMT 1, The only person who used the word controversial said they thought some might find it so, and also highlighted that they had purchased it.
So no, don’t think anyone here thinks it is.

I stand by my point that it might make some people feel uncomfortable.
So many other pieces of art do the same (albeit in a different way) - Banksy’s Napalm. Emin’s depictions of abortions, rape etc. Ai Weiwei’s bombs. Hempton’s anatomical depictions. I am using the word uncomfortable in the sense of the opposite of comfortable (say in the way that the general public is largely comfortable being in a room filled with Turner’s landscape paintings), rather than to mean disapproving or inherently disagreeable.
The reality is that even in today’s western world, a number of people may feel uncomfortable with nude (non sexualised) artwork on their walls, more so erotic art and also if of a homosexual nature. But to me the power of this artwork and many others which have potentially taboo subject matter is that by taking people out of their comfort zone it makes them confront and assess their reactions to the subject of the picture, and in doing so maybe make them realise/reconsider their prejudices. This print does that to a great extent by showing two naked men lying next to each other holding hands, in an entirely natural manner, just as a heterosexual couple might. So to me that’s why it’s good art.
