Julio Anaya Cabanding show in Aishonanzuka, by jhavisen on Jul 13, 2021 14:11:34 GMT 1, Anyone here following Julio? Has a new show in USA with thinkspace, looks amazing! What do people think of him? Can he continue to grow, or will it be too hard for him to evolve into a class a artist, as he only does other artists paintings? Or have he started to make his own yet?

Can he continue to grow, or will it be too hard for him to evolve into a class a artist, as he only does other artists paintings? Or have he started to make his own yet? I really like a lot of his stuff. It works better in an outdoor context, where the illusion is more striking, but the works he produces to sell are also very impressive. I nearly bought last year, but available works weren't quite what I wanted. His prices have gone up for this show, understandably, and he's now at a price I wouldn't really want to pay for something I may tire of in a few years.
I'm so-so on the pieces for this show because I don't particularly like the paintings he's reproduced, but interested to see what he does next. He's very, very talented.

Julio Anaya Cabanding show in Aishonanzuka, by Ravnur 2020 on Jul 13, 2021 15:13:46 GMT 1, I agree with whatilike, it works very well outdoors due to the context, the background walls, the views, the illusion and the surprise element. He is obviously good with the brush and it would be interesting to see him applying this to create his own motifs so to speak. I don't think these work as regular wall pieces indoors (as so much good street art) where they lose their context and hence their strength. The painted cardboard background becomes contrived. If they were to work indoors I think it has to be in a very unorthodox setting such as industrial or spaces where we do not usually see or expect to see art and not white gallery walls. White gallery walls kill so much good street art!

Julio Anaya Cabanding show in Aishonanzuka, by Humble Art Collector on Jul 13, 2021 15:34:40 GMT 1, I find his stuff amazing and very refreshing. I disagree about the setting. His pieces are amazing anywhere. A house is just as challenging as an outdoor setting. I think what he achieves with the frames and shadows is impressive and many times at first glance you do not realize it is not a real frame or on cardboard. The reuse recycle is great. I think for the foreseeable future he will continue to rise and his prices will continue to go up making todays prices look like a deal.
If you take a step back and think about what he is doing it is quite unique and non derivative or what many other street artists are doing. He has a very unique style that is definitely recognizable as him. There are only a handful or street artists you can say that about. Most are just replays of another.
Also all these artists are not just street artists. I like to think of these as canvas works by street artists. It is specifically being created for private consumption. It has many elements of their large walls but also a but more finesse and detail.
Another way to look at it is how he has been able to break through the noise at such a young age, has gotten a few very impressive gallery shows, and how almost every show sells our way before opening. Again this is not something even 5% of the artists achieve. There is no reason to expect this to slow until he hits the higher end of the price spectrum or urban art.
I think the pieces from 2020-2021 will feel like a steal in a few short years just like Noir, Takeru, Dulk, Pichi, Bordallo, AddFuel, etc...

I hope so too, as i really like him (don't own anything), i just can't see him really explode in price, when "all he does" is to copy other artists: Even though he does it amazing and in his own way.

He's just painting other artists paintings on cardboard. Regardless of his talent, he is still just ripping off work from other artists. I wouldn't call it ripping off. He's not stealing anybody's idea. He's attempting a new context for classical paintings by putting them on found material or crumbling walls.
I agree with you that there's a novelty factor to his current work and it probably won't be interesting if he does this indefinitely, but saying he's ripping anyone off seems unfair.

Julio Anaya Cabanding show in Aishonanzuka, by Humble Art Collector on Jul 13, 2021 15:51:14 GMT 1, I totally agree this is not a rip off at all... He is reimagining the context of the art. He is using images people recognize but his work is really reproducing the lighting, shadows, frames, on cardboard. It has less to do with the images he is painting that what he is doing. I think using well know painting is part of his creativity. s**t if you want to talk about ripping off literally you would Kill the whole "pop" art segment. Why is it ok for that segment to blatantly rip off Looney toons, Disney, cartoons in general, major commercial brands, etc and we all consider it "new creative" art because the tweak the design and characters a bit. I would say what he is doing here is way more creative and impressive and deserves to be applauded not criticized or questioned. He may pivot in the future but this current body of work will always be unique and special because it was a "first".

Of course street artists are not necessarily just street artists, but I think quite a lot of street art loses it's strength when it moves indoor onto white walls. Also you say we should not criticize and question.......honestly is this not what most artists do themselves and is this not what is one of the fundamental reasons why art is art and not just decoration?

Julio Anaya Cabanding show in Aishonanzuka, by Charlie Bronson on Jul 13, 2021 17:37:36 GMT 1, I’m a fan and was looking forward to grabbing something from his Thinkspace show. Inquired about the goddess head piece but it was already sold. The other pieces in the show, although beautiful works, just didn’t resonate with me. I’d love to see his rendition of a Diego Velazquez, Anthony Van Dyke, or Goya. I think eventually, once I find the right one, I’ll have a work of his.

Julio Anaya Cabanding show in Aishonanzuka, by Jimini Cricket on Jul 13, 2021 23:51:18 GMT 1, I own two artworks and love them a lot…I think he is a great artist despite the fact he reproduces old Masters I admire the twist of a classic painting on a cardboard.
I would be impressed if the Belvedere David was 2m tall like the og.

Julio Anaya Cabanding show in Aishonanzuka, by Jimini Cricket on Jul 14, 2021 0:30:55 GMT 1, Without shitting too much on the artist, Cabanding not David, there is a whole village in China pumping out oil reproductions. Available on AliExpress and Etsy. I am sure they would accommodate any request if you ask nicely and pay a reasonable consideration.

Julio Anaya Cabanding show in Aishonanzuka, by SPCollector on Jul 15, 2021 10:37:30 GMT 1, Hi, In my opinio, Julio is not a copier, he has shown the old master painting in the street making a kind of trap. There are several artist that use old paintings for making their own artworks. A part of this, he uses different techniques, not just cardboard... I have some artworks from him and they are very nice : - Here you have a big framed photo from one of his installation:
- In this case he made a colloboration with Pichiavo over a canvas, background from Pichiavo and old master paint from Julio:
- Other technique he use, in the russian museum of Malaga, an acrylic on intervened photography :
A part of these examples, he is starting with the sculpture... Personally, I see a great potential for growth in this artist, incorporating new techniques to develop his project.

He's making reproductions from Google images. It's not like he improves on the original masters. He lacks the precision and detail of many of the originals. Someone please put together side by side examples and we can spot the differences together.
