No more great prints ? , by Lroy on Nov 2, 2020 19:13:47 GMT 1, Someone from here was looking yesterday for the red Shock 1 print, the Pow one with the rope & heart ( can’t find the name while I’m typing, I only have my phone fir the internet ). So. what do you think ? Greatest prints were 5 to 10 years ago no ? Most of all the Pow ones, Dolk is still very asked too. Don’t you think that prints of now are a bit surcharged in colors, details etc ? Simplicity and efficacy ( look the banksy’s ones ) is the best on street-art and Graf no ? Maybe they want to pass for contemporart artists now ? Second problem : they are now very very expensive. Why ? Maybe a certain street-art is definitely dead and belongs now to galeries, vip, etc .. Well we, I, now can count on stickers and tats ( even posters are in the speculator hands )... Books too. There were great prints before... They will be very asked I guess in the future.. or not. What’s happened to Graffik Gallery ? Still Some great prints anyway in Comics drawers as Burns per example .. All classics are gone ... Any thoughts ?

No more great prints ? , by Icesay on Nov 2, 2020 20:54:35 GMT 1, I dunno, there were plenty of releases...not many great ones though! To be honest I think the scene has lost its edginess...too many pretty pictures without a message or meaning. Athena posters.

No more great prints ? , by Ravnur 2020 on Nov 3, 2020 2:21:07 GMT 1, Good post Lroy and a lot of questions
I bought my first Banksy (Napalm) at cost from POW in 2004/5 and remember umming and aahing over which Banksy print to choose (rosetinted nostalgia :-)). I think POW were so special and are remembered so fondly because they were one of the first ones to focus on making prints of images of street art many of us had enjoyed on the streets (especially in London). This was new, exciting and affordable and you felt that the people at POW really cared about what they were releasing (and they were very friendly to deal with). As especially Banksy became so big, so did the run on POW releases and the money mill kicked in (especially among buyers only looking for a quick buck), but that said many of the prints that today are deemed classics, such as some of the BLU prints were cheap and available for ages before they sold out.
It is natural that artists develop and move on like the rest of us, but if you look at some of the biggest names they are still active on the streets (Banksy, Os Gemeos, BLU, Shepard, JR, Invader etc etc). I don't think that the street art as we knew it 10 years ago is dead, but i do think a lot of it is drowned out by releases of work with colourful images without any message or edge (as mentioned above). I just think you have to sift through all the empty hype, merchandise and noise to find the good stuff (according to your taste :-))
Recently I have "rediscovered" the great work of artists such as Millo, Moneyless and M-City, they all are active on the streets and their work is available and affordable.
Happy hunting!
