Futura ๐บ๐ธ Leonard Hilton McGurr โข New York Graffiti Artist, by Deleted on Jan 21, 2017 3:03:06 GMT 1, Most art on the street is done by talentless vandalists btw that just like to tag their nonsense over everything. Idk what to say about that. The things I do like on the streets are mostly legally painted large walls. Huh? How do you think most artists that are painting the legal large walls that you like got started exactly?? How can you appreciate street art without some level of appreciation or understanding for 'vandalism' ? I never said I dislike all illegal streetart. I just said that when I look around in cities (most recently a long walk through Vienna) about 95% of the graffiti I see is total utter talentless rubbish done by probably 13 year old random vandalists who aren't 'creating art' but are just vandalising for the sake of vandalising.
That being said, you do stumble upon some gems every now and then that do in fact show talent and creativity. Just saying that, like in every creative field, most stuff that's being produced/done is rubbish. Hence why only a very select few in each field reach big audiences. Being it music, cinematics, art..

Futura ๐บ๐ธ Leonard Hilton McGurr โข New York Graffiti Artist, by Coach on Jan 21, 2017 13:55:18 GMT 1, You mentioned street art. A few times. But no mention of art on the street. This is the problem. It's all about what can be bought. What can be sold. Are sales thread good enough. Ffs. So i take it you don't agree with what I said? Imo there's not much 'art on the street' that's worth talking about, and I don't think this forum was ever that much about art on the street? I disagree with you regarding this forum and regarding street art. This forum originated from an eBay forum that was dedicated to Banksy, a street artist. When it left eBay, it was called the Banksy Forum. The forum was predominantly about Banksy and other street and urban artists, both street and indoor work. Until recently some fabulous members (mikeydread, dungle, 11, dreadnatty, to name a few) shared numerous pictures of great street art. It is a shame that they don't (or not so much) anymore (though I understand why not). It was what made this place great in my opinion. I enjoy looking at street art, including legal walls, but more so pieces thrown up on the streets without permission. I enjoy graff, tags, scrawls, paste ups, stickers, etc. Without them the legal murals that you like wouldn't exist. Just adverts. Tags and graff are the history of street art. I accept that some targgers have no time for street artists and vice versa. I happen to enjoy and respect both. I cannot fathom that members would enjoy street art, but frown upon painted vandalism (to use your word).

Futura ๐บ๐ธ Leonard Hilton McGurr โข New York Graffiti Artist, by 11 on Jan 21, 2017 14:35:36 GMT 1, Spot-On coachy ( and thank you for the mention ) unfortunately someone with power decided that there wasn't a community and it was all self-serving.....which in-turn seems to have encouraged a new breed of member.....or at least seems to have favoured a certain type of member anyway.
I did laugh out loud to read this place was never about street-art. I think the London scene is very flat, it reflects the new type of membership here where people have no interest in street-art or its history and are in it purely for the money. I love the dirty grungy walls layered in paint and graff, illegal tags, pasters and everything else......but where have the anarchists and vandals gone, if i wanted to spend my life looking at hoardings then we might as well give it all up to the advertisers
But go to Paris or Amsterdam and Rotterdam and street-art is very much alive, movements, crews, all sorts of art and street artists using their voice to make a stand......not try and get another commission by painting yet another pretty picture on a perfect surface......f**kme if i want that I can go to the RSA
I love this building
and this is pure wall porn for me, a world renowned StreetArtist and Muralist with some fantastic (illegal) graff to complement :
compared against this :
Anyway Coach we've got a new outlet for our photos now......and I'm still waiting for a reply to my text
Getting back to the thread....that futura is off the hook.....I decided i need some atoms or point men in my life

@blanksky I find a lot of what you say an extremely surprising view of street art. Tags are the work of vandals, street art is best on commissioned murals etc...
I would say that very fine line between vandalism and art is exactly what defines street art.
Taki, Seen, Cope were notorious vandals before anyone thought of them as artists. Banksy was a vandal for many, and there is a reason for which he is still not painting large commissioned murals in Hoxton or Miami.
Vandalism and street art are inseparable.
Discerning between the vandal and the street artist, is judging the form without the function, the exact opposite of the very nature of street art.
Although I am sure I would agree with you that those tags you saw were not beautiful, at least they stand for something, which is a lot more than can be said of Whatson's tags for example.
Discarding the tag as vandalism, and idolising the print as street art, is exactly what is happening here and whatever it is, in my opinion it's not street art anymore
What it is I am not sure
Edit : Funny to see that the names of Cope, Seen and Taki do not get the "bold" treatment here but Whatson does....says a lot about the whole thing

Futura ๐บ๐ธ Leonard Hilton McGurr โข New York Graffiti Artist, by Deleted on Jan 21, 2017 16:34:13 GMT 1, Couple of thoughts: - People do more and more on their smartphones and tablets every month/year/decade. On such keyboards you type a lot less comfy than on a pc-keyboard so people tend to post less and less, because it takes way more effort and time to type a few sentences on your smartphone than on a pc. - This forum is not handled that well, in regard that there has been a lot of mishandled controversy, for sale-topics aren't modded so you get a glorified ebay with 0 info, no pics, no asking prices, etc, art wanted-topics are all grouped together, etc. It's just not a very fun or knowledgeable place anymore. I used to F5 the f**kout of this forum a few years ago, now I just check once a day and scroll through the active threads, which are mostly boring. - Street art has become a valuable flipping thing so less and less art is landing in the hands of collectors that like to talk about art, and more and more into bot using flippers that don't care if they buy a print or a pair of sneakers, as long as they get double what they paid within a month. - Also most releases of new art nowadays have like 70% pre-sold so almost nobody that posts/talks about art is able to get something they like. All that combined makes street art a bit played out in terms of talking about it on the internet, is my humble opinion. The latest Dran release is a fine example of this. I have a dran on my walls and would have gladly considered getting the new one. Instead I didn't know they were for sale (gallery just offered them to known costumers or whatever wealthy prics they have on their vip list without there ever being a public sale), and 1 day later there's a post here from a user with very little posts offering the print for like 5x the sale price, while not even having the print in hand yet. And this topic doesn't get modded or deleted. Many long standing members/contributors have been banned or disenchanted with how ownership has run this place. For Sale threads, stirring up political threads etc seem to be the direction he wants.
lol,
Politics is part of everyday life. Political art deserves to be debated, like dor disliked.
Of course it could just be down to market factors, galleries, vested interested, sellers etc etc who could have if they wanted multiple accounts finding that Urban art has become less flippable and ergo less fashionable.
Other possible factors, alledgedly some on the forum PM (private messaging) members to try to get them to block certain members.
It's a forum about Urban art after all and it's only good it seems if people can make money from it or it's only good if it sells at Snobby's auction house for quadzillions.
It's telling that a lot if not all the great graffiti freehand letterers who make those very abstract freehand artistic stuff on walls hardly ever post on here.

Futura ๐บ๐ธ Leonard Hilton McGurr โข New York Graffiti Artist, by Deleted on Jan 21, 2017 16:36:41 GMT 1, It might help sell the Futura with better mages and also some background.
I hadn't a clue who Futura and Unkle was or what they did or the link with music.
People post on here assuming the whole world knows who these urban artists are and a lot of posts are very lazy.
Selling a painting or print by LGBYFR offers invited which means nothing to many people.
Uban art has become a small and selective clique.

First, huge apologies for not replying to your text. I'll get on to that. Poor form. I'm shoddy.
Agree with you about those buildings. And that Roa, for me it's improved by the tags. The piece becomes part of the building, as do the tags. I don't want to see clean immaculate street art. And street art is by its very nature ephemeral. No street artist expects their piece to last intact. I don't know, but I'd be surprised if Roa himself was upset by the tags that now adorn his piece.
This is one of my all time favourites. Nothing clean and tidy about this beauty.

I would highly doubt the StreetArt scene would be where it is without the vandals: http://instagram.com/p/BO8Vr7mlW_0 http://instagram.com/p/BO8Vm8llhwm http://instagram.com/p/BO8VgaNF-pR http://instagram.com/p/BO8Vcb9l7us http://instagram.com/p/BO8VY_kljSe

For how much attention this forum gives hacks and nobodies and people who are not even street / urban artists, you would figure that that a well priced canvas from a legend would be gone in a heart beat.
GLWS, if I was not on a buying ban (I went on a Barry McGee spree late last year) I would be all over this.

Everytime this thread updates it kills me. Its important to keep in mind that not everyone has this kind of money or I'd have snapped it up long ago (along with countless others I'm sure).
Whoever does pull the trigger is going to be a happy bunny
Stroll on Euro millions this week!!!!!

Futura ๐บ๐ธ Leonard Hilton McGurr โข New York Graffiti Artist, by djvlnt on Jan 30, 2017 0:48:41 GMT 1, Not sure how my post got hijacked into a general discussion on art but I wanted to bump that this is still available and I can answer any questions you may have thru email. If it makes anyone feel better after reading the comments about this forum, I am taking a loss on this piece but I have enjoyed it for the last 4 years. My new place will be more expensive and much smaller hence the sale. Someone is going to get a steal from this legend as I am lowering the price to an NYC local pick up to $5500 and shipping within the USA at 6k paypal.
Hi Are they both signed?
