Flattening / Framing, by Morfx on Nov 12, 2020 19:03:39 GMT 1, Bought a Eine Oranges and lemons, already framed, float mounted but looking very wavy..
Popped into a local framer "tons of decent reviews" looking to have it refloated.
Now the framer is heavily suggesting I have it glued down after he vaccumes it flat.
I've been adiment I don't want it glued, just taped
Been quoted ยฃ120 and it will be flat and glued.. (he hasn't even opened the frame up yet)
Going round in circles, Picking it up tomorrow..
Any suggestions what I could possibly do?
Wish I'd of taken some photos..
Will upload some when collected tomorrow..

Flattening / Framing, by bestdj777 on Nov 12, 2020 19:25:18 GMT 1, I think taking it to a different framed is a good idea. Gluing it down sounds like a bad option. Iโd think they could flatten it a bit and retape it and your issues would be solved.

Flattening / Framing, by concrete jungle on Nov 12, 2020 19:41:36 GMT 1, I won't have it glued, he wouldnt listen, hence why I'm picking it up tomorrow ๐ Not very urban but I had a couple of Eduardo Paolozzi prints framed by local 'guild' framer about 15 years ago when I started collecting art. He swore use of archival materials and absolutely no glue. Running out of wall space five years ago I stuck said prints on eBay - got decent interest and sales. Went to deframe them for shipping and surprise surprise- both glued to board backing๐ eBay sales cancelled, back in the frames and now residing in downstairs toilet. Lesson learnt the hard way!!

Flattening / Framing, by concrete jungle on Nov 12, 2020 19:45:53 GMT 1, Meant to add - I'd had also got him to frame my first Banksy - a Colour Trolleys. Had a complete panic once discovered the fate of the Paolozzi's - but luckily on opening the frame this time no glue!!!

Flattening / Framing, by Rubberneck on Nov 12, 2020 23:13:32 GMT 1, I had a print dry mounted or glued ...was fuming when I deframed it, as had specially requested archival materials only..cost me ยฃ1500 to get it restored as best it could be.
If itโs an expensive print for your permanent collection then spend the extra money on Darbyshires. They donโt mess around. Works out cheaper in the long run and protects the print for posterity.
