eBay v Catawiki v ? & Best auction results website?, by DAVE on Nov 14, 2020 12:03:35 GMT 1, I am a frequent eBayer and only discovered Catawiki recently after reading on here, so I'm not to up to speed with the pros/cons so just thought i'd ask!
Searching Catawiki it doesn't seem to have as much stock as say eBay ? I am just basically looking for the pros/cons vs eBay for a buyer and seller. Also are there any other similar websites I might not know that are good?
While i'm asking, a second question. What do you all use for checking auction results, I've found a few different websites but I'm sure there's a 'go-to' that's better than the rest.
Thanks a lot for your help.

eBay v Catawiki v ? & Best auction results website?, by dex on Nov 14, 2020 14:00:29 GMT 1, Biggest difference is Catawiki has auctions curated by their inhouse experts. As a seller you can't post an item on their site directly, like you can with Ebay. Do note: this does not guarantee there are no fakes on the website.
Also Catawiki is a middle man when it comes to managing the payment. As a seller you ship once they have the payment from the buyer. Once the buyer has claimed the item, the seller gets paid. I do believe Catawiki has no listing fee, but once there is a sale both the buyer and seller have some fees to pay. Ebay only has a seller fee.

eBay v Catawiki v ? & Best auction results website?, by dreadware on Nov 14, 2020 14:47:38 GMT 1, Also...the seller pays 15.1% (in Europe) and buyer 9% - on the same article...so Catawiki gets 24.1% . The biggest differences are that on Catawiki : -you cannot contact the buyer during the auction. -you cannot modify the add after it's been approved(you can ask, but they never reply) -you cannot delete the add after it's been approved(you can ask, but they never reply) -fees are way higher than Ebay.
Pros: - Buyers trust more Catawiki because of the "expertise" - but like said before, it doesn't mean anything. There were cases when a Super Nurse was auctioned with real photos and the buyer received a fake , not a real FAKE
Cons: - Big fees compared to Ebay.

Fees are basicly the same for a seller as on eBay. Catawiki charges about 15% including VAT. They pay through bank transfer. eBay charges 10%, but payment is usually through Paypal which is another 5%....

Marktplaats is also part of eBay. Didn't change a thing.
eBay does have deeper pockets for promotion and dev opps. So it would help them grow.

How do you contact directly the autioneers after the item was approved or it's in auction? My only option is to "Request Change" and that goes to the general support.
Thanks!

That would be a total waste of money. Doesn't make any sense.
Your grapevine best focus on making wine.....

eBay v Catawiki v ? & Best auction results website?, by sleazus1slord on Nov 14, 2020 19:24:03 GMT 1, I've sold about 500 items on each platform. I say buy on ebay and sell on catawiki as a general rule. Ebay/Paypal has much better buyer protection and automated international shipping system. Selling on Catawiki you have to arrange all the shipping and update the tracking manually so there's a lot more opportunity for inexperienced sellers to make mistakes. Plus catawiki is very scammy, I've seen the same items from the same sellers with the same photos sell dozens of times over. Their customer service really sucks too, it's like one girl in an office who is very nice but can't actually do anything to help. They always want the seller to work it out with the buyer, and if you don't receive the item or it comes damaged or fake you have little to no recourse. Use a credit card that you have good standing with in case you need to stop payment, it's the best and only real buyer protection you'll get buying on catawiki. If you are buying any original art on catawiki just contact the artist directly and you can get most stuff for much less than what it auctions for.
I hope ebay does a catch and kill on catawiki, they've been getting away with murder for too long.

eBay v Catawiki v ? & Best auction results website?, by hellfo on Nov 14, 2020 20:51:34 GMT 1, Catawiki is the best choice for a seller. I don't know why, but the results are always higher. For example, a pechkam rock postcard on eBay goes for 200/250€,on catawiki goes for 400/450. Some items on catawiki are sold for a price higher than the price at source, while the object is still available... Strange but true. BUT, if you want to sell on catawiki you have to be patient (a lot). For example, selling pechkam rock postcard is nearly impossible (the "expert" will tell you something like this: "Since we have recently received lots similar to the one you submitted, we cannot guarantee that we will include it in our auctions in a short time. If you were still interested in auctioning this item in a few months, please resubmit it then". After a couple of months, he will tell you the same message 😅). For street art, imho, the experts are not so... Expert.
