Black Friday opportunities/offers?, by ignacarinho on Nov 14, 2020 23:35:26 GMT 1, Hello everybody, Just starting this thread so we can share and compile list of opportunities that are being announced for this upcoming Black Friday 2020 - trusting this is the proper sub-board to do so. I'm particularly interested in reading your experiences from previous years, if you remember some galleries/websites/artists themselves (?) offering some level of discount on their artwork that Friday/weekend - so we know what we could expect in 2 weeks time Perhaps even the galleries that are present in the forum could announce/anticipate that info directly themselves? After a quick search in this same sub-board I've read a couple of offers from previous years including some 30% OFF and/or free shipping, looking forward to knowing more, thanks! Igna

Black Friday opportunities/offers?, by ignacarinho on Nov 15, 2020 13:20:02 GMT 1, Thanks for your reply, that's indeed what I was looking for here. Another one: European Bob anticipates he's offering 10% discount and free shipping next week on all orders! Keep them coming!

Black Friday opportunities/offers?, by Icesay on Nov 16, 2020 21:37:01 GMT 1, Why would an artist offer a black Friday sale? And while we're on it...Black Friday? Fuck off. Black sales matter.. Jesus Christ! And yes that was deliberate!

Here’s the history of Black Friday according to the interwebs. Turns out there’s a lot of history behind it.
Black Friday (also Schwarzer Freitag, Freitag ze Schwarzer) is an annual sale on goods and items that originates from the story of a German crotchety, fur-clad Christmas gift-bringer figure in the folklore of the Palatinate region of southwestern Germany along the Rhine, the Saarland, and the Odenwald area of Baden-Württemberg.
Known as Belsnickel, the krass gift-bringer would force shops and vendors to heavily discount their items, for one hour, at the end of November of each year, starting in 1809. The reason, so he could buy gifts at discounted prices and sell them for a profit come Christmas time. Known today as “flipping”, Belsnickel is credited with being the first to ever do it. When Schwarzer Freitag first started, several vendors refused, and in doing so met an untimely, gruesome death, often involving decapitation, nipple cutting(also known as nippel schnitt)[1]and/or castration; several bodies were displayed in public to show what would happen to those who refused to cooperate with Belsnickel’s demands.
The annual Black Friday sale started in the US via Pennsylvania Dutch communities[2] and Brazilian-German communities residing in Reno, Nevada.[3] Although never seen again after 1865, it is believed Belsnickel lived out the rest of his life in Palm Springs, CA, up until his death in 1889. Belsnickel was laid to rest alongside Kenny Loggins at the Hollywood Cemetery, in Los Angeles, CA.[4]
