Pejac โข Ahab Print, by avec art on Nov 18, 2020 14:06:00 GMT 1, if you don't record the delivery there will always be a number of people claiming they never received their postcard, when in fact they did. Sad, but it's the reality of selling online

Pejac โข Ahab Print, by Auropelli on Nov 18, 2020 14:09:18 GMT 1, The motive is great, and for sure no problem to sell a small lot of 20 pieces. There are 44 million millionares in the world, and as people are willing to spend 100k for an Banksy print edition of 150 for sure there will be enough who don't care if this new Pejac print cost 3K or 10K. I think Pejac and Max just have been sad that regular 50% of their prints in the past had gone to flippers and not to collectors. So this release will be an statement that buying art should not be something just to make fast money, its something to be happy to have, hold, and hang on the wall. The two paper print will make it unique as well. Of course there are printing companys who would had been able to print it that size, but every Pejac fan who once will see this print in real will now have a special look at this detail. So it will be part of Pejacs art history.

Pejac โข Ahab Print, by avec art on Nov 18, 2020 14:13:41 GMT 1, printing companies !! They printed this themselves, for many artists it's important for them to be part of such an integral aspect of the process, and for Pejac it clearly is.

Pejac โข Ahab Print, by pada1 on Nov 18, 2020 14:27:00 GMT 1, I took some time to read all comments and opinions.
My takes are: - Pejac and his team are very careful in their choice of material and execution. Some of us may be annoyed or disrupted by the result, but the conclusion remains the same and I am 100% sure that the artist is happy with what he offers. - The price is high for most of the budgets discussed on this forum. But the edition is small, the print is large and it appears that several artisans worked on this project. Last, I agree with the comment that itโs probably priced right for the collectors who enjoy the art for itself. And there are far enough of them to this edition. - the image and the theme are just beautiful. A classic picture from Pejac.

So this release will be an statement that buying art should not be something just to make fast money, its something to be happy to have, hold, and hang on the wall. Unfortunately, there are a lot of collectors out there that buy to enjoy and not sell but can't afford the $10k buy in on this. Reselling is a part of any limited edition hobby, there's always going to be a human out there looking to profit off another human's work. Pricing this out of reach of many of his fans doesn't solve more problems than it creates in my opinion.
I would have preferred it if Pejac did what James Jean does and release all of his works as open editions. Let your fans get their hands on and enjoy your art and not worry about what happens on the aftermarket. JJ's work doesn't tend to draw "flippers" but it does appreciate nicely giving rise to higher values over time.

Pejac โข Ahab Print, by mojo on Nov 18, 2020 14:56:18 GMT 1, Obviously this print has been designed for large corporate foyer's and gallery walls and not for domestic use. The seam is perhaps necessary to allow for the framing, if it was one piece it would be almost impossible to keep flat and very difficult to frame correctly without handling damage to the print. I would imagine they already have 20 buyers lined up to buy and hopefully display as the message is very urgent and important. As for the 16Euro postage for a postcard, has anybody been to the post office recently as it is not cheap to post overseas on recorded delivery in a toughened environmentally friendly envelope, I doubt they are making any money on the postage. Just for clarity I don't own any Pejac work although I respect his talent and commitment to shining a light on urgent environmental issues. There are plenty of large, old prints on aluminium without seams. There's really no excuse. You can say it's easier, but it's poor visually and it's art; the most important thing is that it looks good and it certainly doesn't. They're making money hand over fist on the postage. Recorded delivery for such a cheap item is not necessary. Print extras to cover loss and damage and ship them as cheaply as possible. Envelopes will be purchased in bulk and at a low cost. "They're making money hand over fist"...that's rich coming from you! Of course its necessary to use recorded delivery for the postcards it would be unprofessional not to. I wonder if the logistics of producing the print on aluminium in one piece were unviable as well as took the work out of the artists studio therefore the artist chose this way as its their work and up to them how they want to execute it. Plenty of people support this artist and their vision, not just on this forum. I just hope its displayed and not kept in a ginormous portfolio.

In art printmaking, working closely with printers is the norm, the opposite should be the exception and viewed with considerable suspicion ....
...BUT if the artist, or his trusted printer, are unable to perform a certain type of work due to lack of means or technical skills (fundamental in printmaking) then they should contact someone who knows how to do it and that can help them.
My 2 cents.

Recorded delivery is not necessary for a cheap postcard. When the purpose of the edition is to raise money for a charity you should think about how to maximize the contribution. We can't know how many people abroad didn't purchase one as the result of insane shipping costs but would have otherwise.

In the art world he's basically a nobody, with a small UAA collector following and a lot of instagram followers who like seeing clever street art posted from time to time.
I'm not sure why he concentrates his practice on drawing, when he really shines with his paintings.

Pejac โข Ahab Print, by axel on Nov 18, 2020 17:37:25 GMT 1, I bought the postcard for the good cause more than to have a chance to buy the artwork, and the only reason is wall space. There are a lot of interesting comments and feedbacks that Max or Pejac should read. I think that the price tag is there to make a statement ake that flippers are no longer welcome for this artist. About the size, assuming that nor Pejac or Max went crazy, it's probably an outcome of requests. Big format are collected by institutional and big collectors and while I understand the point of ijbundny of asking for a more democratized art, I don't think that is the actual purpose of the (any) artist. Ultimately an artist is as good as his collectors base is.
Another thought on this release: I think that Pejac sits in a kind of artistic limbo between the street art and the studio and that he is trying to position himself in the studio art scene (where the real art critic is). To be fair that is a way juicier club than this one from an artist perspective.
thoughts?

Fair point and is bit what I was hint.
I guess he does also a quite a few painting that are going to collectors... I also kind of agree on the legitimacy, but I think he needs a buy in from some major art critic more than necessary from a gallery

I was excited it was so big, and so disappointed it was two pieces joined.
I understand the desire to make a statement to flippers, but you really can't justify this asking price. It translates to a $100-200k original price tag. And lets be honest, flippers aren't making bank on Pejac (anymore). This release is also with very little momentum, perhaps if the NYC show had gone on as planned and been a great success. I say this as a fan and collector of the artist.

I understand the "issue" with the seam and but I struggle to formulate an opinion until I see it in person. Overall I'm with you as it is a big element of debate... While on one side it leave me quite skeptical for your same reasons on the other we also know that the artist is a perfectionist and I don't think he would have imagined the opera in this way if wasn't adding value. At least this is my hope

Pejac โข Ahab Print, by cartogus on Nov 19, 2020 15:32:24 GMT 1, Just a reminder for anyone who purchased the postcards.
When it says "and the money collected from the lottery sales will be donated to the NGOs Whale And Dolphin Conservation and Fundaciรณn CRAM working in defence and protection of whales and marine environment" it probably means ONLY A SMALL PORTION OF THE MONEY COLLECTED will be donated to the NGOs.
Same as it happened with every other postcard sold with funds promised to charity in the past.
At the show in Paris, as written on his website:
"All the funds collected through lottery tickets will be donated..."
Each postcard was sold for 20 euro - CASH ONLY 600 postcard were sold and given away in person. More postcards were sold and then shipped to buyer. A total of probably 800/1000 postcards were sold. Less than 5000 euro (4585 euro to be precise) were donated to NGO Fondation GoodPlanet.
What happened to all the rest of the money collected?
Please feel free to contact all the NGO were Pejac and his management have donated money to verify the amounts donated.
If you want to do charity, do it yourself, not buying an overpriced postcard with the illusion of your money going to charity.

You can email Fondation GoodPlanet and ask, same as I did. As I suggested the same can be done with any other NGO that received donations by the artist.
Specifically regarding Fondation GoodPlanet I could post a screenshot, but I believe sharing private email correspondence without authorisation isn't legal, so I won't do so I'm sorry.

You can find emails to write to at the link above (partnership and/or PR and communication)

Pejac โข Ahab Print, by sfnyc on Nov 19, 2020 18:55:19 GMT 1, Just a reminder for anyone who purchased the postcards. At the show in Paris, as written on his website: "All the funds collected through lottery tickets will be donated..." Each postcard was sold for 20 euro - CASH ONLY 600 postcard were sold and given away in person. And that doesn't even mention how this creates a tax deduction for Pejac on the profit he makes selling the prints. So he's actually saving on his taxes by doing that...

To be fair you are getting what has become a collectible Postcard which holds it value
You could sell the Postcard and donate the money raised if you like
I think its a bit harsh to call them out on this personally.

Pejac โข Ahab Print, by cogitobcn on Nov 19, 2020 20:18:02 GMT 1, When they say "all the funds" they usually mean "all the profits", i.e. after taking off the cost of producing all the postcards, paying people's wages, advertising costs etc. etc. Sadly, you are right, but with a shipping cost of 16โฌ it's quite easy to reduce the profits to almost zero.
