Fake Dismaland Art - Response from an Auction House, by startimeash on Dec 2, 2020 14:26:42 GMT 1, Just want to get some thoughts on this. I know there is a thread for fakes, but thought it better to put this up on its own, given the response from the auction house.
The item in question is here: www.encherissez.com/en/lot/108143/13933077
So far, so dodgy looking. I emailed the auction house to point out that Pest Control themselves have said that there was no "Free Art" given out at Dismaland, and this was the response I got:
Sir,
We have an email from Pest Control addressed to the owner who owns several Banksy works, not issuing a certificate as always but certifying that the works, including the one presented here, were indeed exhibited in the Dismaland exhibition.
Regards

So, my question - was there ANY work from Dismaland that would fit the bill here? Looking at the rest of the items on sale does not fill me with confidence - there are a bunch of "After Banksy" road signs, and some other items that just don't feel right. Thoughts?

Fake Dismaland Art - Response from an Auction House, by startimeash on Dec 2, 2020 15:10:38 GMT 1, The pest control email will no doubt be fake. You could send the pic to PC as a potential buyer and see what they say. Yup, have done - also emailed the auction house back and told them I'd done that, and to check with Pest Control themselves. Pisses me off that there's not a minimum of due diligence with these things. Someone could potentially be on the hook for £15-20k on the back of this, and they can't be arsed to check if it's real or not, even after they're told directly that it isn't! Have bought a couple of fakes myself at auction (thankfully nowhere near this price) and it was a total pain in the backside trying to get my money back.
