I must have missed it in the current auction. Do you know if it was the same seller this time as in 2018?

The Kill Mom was in the 2018 auction, however the provenance on the fake WSM was from the same place as the Kill Mom (but without the COA)
The fact that Artcurial removed the Lot is a good thing obviously but just wondered how it came to be submitted in the first place

Artcurial Art Auctions , by gimmeabreak on Dec 14, 2020 21:46:34 GMT 1, Well done, the power of the forum ! It shouldnt be the 'power of the forum ' !!! It should be auctioneers knowing what they're doing. As we've seen in recent weeks there are many cowboy auction houses that dont. This.
The auction house should not be applauded for removing a forged work from their auction. They should be lambasted for allowing that work to be part of the auction in the first place. They likely would have sold it on absent the forum intervening.
Don't pay auction houses 25% for doing zero work or due diligence and allowing fake works into their auctions. Houses like these should be boycotted until they fix their operation, but buyers are too caught up in the Banksy craze now and are throwing caution to the wind.

When I first saw it on their online catalogue, I was confused for a few minutes because it wasn't even that it was hard to tell. It was almost too obvious. It didn't make sense that a reputable Auctioneers would allow this to happen. I most certainly don't think they should be applauded either and they obviously were left with no choice but to withdraw it from sale, but whoever it is that appraised that work when it came in, needs to up their game in a big way.
Simplest solution would be not to consign any works unless they have a COA or water-tight PCO confirmation that one has been approved and is pending delivery. All it takes is a few of these shnide prints to be sold and for a story to then come out about it later on and the market becomes affected....Imagine having something hanging on your wall that you pay £50k plus for and then further down the line you find out it is worthless.
Gonna hurt
I don't know what is worse, the people responsible for producing the fakes or the people responsible for selling them

Why would people need to be careful with what they say? Its an anonymous forum and members have always pretty much said what they want....
I remember taking a signed BH back to POW in 2009/2010 because there was damage in the paper. The one it was replaced with had a lame arse sig which in my mind I always suspected hadn't been signed by Banksy. Even though it had COA, it always bothered me a bit and to this day I had never seen one of his signatures look this way.
It wasn't as bad as the WSM in discussion and it had the COA but back in the day it was often spoken about that staff were signing some of the prints. If this statement is gonna get the Banksy police onto me or someone is gonna break my anonymity then so be it......
😌

Artcurial Art Auctions , by artiseverywhere on Dec 16, 2020 1:51:34 GMT 1, The Shepard Fairey and Glenn E. Friedman Tony Alva piece in the auction is also fantastic. I downloaded the catalogue from the Artcurial site and it has a story about the piece from Shepard Fairey’s book Obey, Supply and Demand where the piece is featured.
Shepard Fairey writes:
Both Tony Alva and Glen E. Friedman, who took this photo of Alva in 1977, were both cultural figures for me growing up, so it was a great honour for me to collaborate with them on this piece. Alva is a really important icon in skateboarding history, being the first to do an air out of a pool, having a very punk-rock attitude and then becoming one of the first skaters to form his own company. My second skateboard ever, back in 1984, was an Alva model. Glen was a primary photographer of the early pool skating scene, and he shot some of my favourite punk and hip-hop acts. From Black Flag and the Misfits to the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy.

Some 'old skool' legends of street art finally getting their due but lot 102?! - well what can I say with that one apart from, well, Wong is just wrong. That is one nasty arse piece. Makes me want to stick needles in me glazballs!
How about lot 109?

Love these Fairey HPM record sleeves too. The record player and the raised fist guitar make a good combo.
