'The end of the year is nearing and, with the COVID-19 vaccine in sight, we are hopeful that 2021 will be easier on all of us. However, as the vaccine is not expected until spring, the refugees living in the Aida Camp near Bethlehem are currently struggling to curb rising infections and make ends meet.

During the pandemic, pre-existing economic struggles have been exacerbated. Unemployment has skyrocketed to about 80% in the camp, and families have spent what little savings they had. Meanwhile, living conditions remain cramped, sanitation is still poor, and during the winter months the houses in the camp are cold and damp. Cases are expected to keep rising in the upcoming months, while local hospitals are already overwhelmed. Moreover, many children in the camp have missed months of school. The Aida Youth Center is organizing educational support classes to help them catch up. We are also distributing essential items, like heaters and healthy food packages, to help the families that are most in need.

This Christmas, we are therefore asking you to consider donating to our fundraiser so we can support the people of Aida Camp together. Your donation will go directly to where it is most needed. And why not donate a blanket, heater or food parcel in your loved one’s name for Christmas?
