Interview with Sasha Bogojev / Sharing tips to collectors, by sfnyc on Jan 1, 2021 19:22:52 GMT 1, Thank you Lisa!
Was great, but the end scene really made me upset with Sasha: why wasn't he wearing a mask in the gallery with people visiting+ why is he travelling all over the world during this pandemic...? Is he a pro trump anti-masker?
Thank you Lisa!

Great interview Lisa Thanks 🙏🏼
And knowing Sasha a bit, I assume he had very good reason not to wear a mask at that very moment (and no, being a Trump supporter isn’t one of them 🤣)

(Yes, I did my own research and I can easily demonstrate to you that a Moustache is way more efficient to stop the spread of COVID than a mask. I've seen numerous videos on twitter and parler about it and the fact that the mainstream media isn't talking about Sasha's Moustache is the proof that I am right so don't even try to convince me of the opposite or I block you on twitter)

Interview with Sasha Bogojev / Sharing tips to collectors, by sal on Jan 2, 2021 15:54:52 GMT 1, Thank you AGAIN Lisa for being interested in what I do and putting so much effort in adding all the reference shots and witty cartoon clips in order to make this video so easy to watch!
Thank you Lisa! Was great, but the end scene really made me upset with Sasha: why wasn't he wearing a mask in the gallery with people visiting+ why is he travelling all over the world during this pandemic...? Is he a pro trump anti-masker?
As trax51 mentioned, my mustache is basically kryptonite to COVID-19 so everyone in the same room with me is over 100% safe from infection.
In all seriousness, I really don't feel like answering these Karen-like questions but just so you understand how wrong you are about letting your assumptions upset you:
Of course I wore the mask at the gallery, but I removed it while we were recording for those few minutes cause without an external microphone the audio would be useless (also, this was Sept in Europe so a different ballgame in terms of the epidemiological situation). I wasn't traveling all over the globe but I did take a 2hr train to Antwerp for this particular opening (I live in The Netherlands). Nope.
See!? No need to start lighting up torches and projecting your nemeses on me right away.
I do hope that besides leaving you upset at the end, you did enjoy what Lisa put together and you'll find a way to curb your frustration and anger in 2021!
S.B.

Thank you for your answers "in all seriousness", as you say. It actually reveals a part of your profile that I guess was missing in this interview here:
a) you really don't know what "a Karen" is, or you wouldn't use it to attack someone that points out to a fair question in a time where the action of wearing or not a mask has become a political/propaganda symbol (with life/death implications). b) you ignore that there are political implications and messaging with such visuals in other parts of the world, especially in the US. c) you are thin-skinned and don't know how to take criticism. It's ok to say you made a mistake, we really like your work and are very forgiving.
So take some perspective, look back at the video without focusing on yourself but on the context, and maybe you will realize that for a fair number of viewers it actually sheds some serious concerns.

I'm not sure about the "fair number of viewers" but I do get what you're trying to say and that but is exactly what I find saddening - you're watching footage of a stranger talking at the gallery in Antwerp, Belgium, back in September, and are instantly fuming cause he might be "trump supporter anti masker". You don't see how messed up that is from another perspective?
I want to think that I'm all ok with criticism but you just threw assumptions which I then broke down - I did wear the mask in the gallery besides those few mins; I wasn't traveling all over the world; I'm certainly not what you implied.
Oh, and Google says "Karen is a pejorative term for women seeming to be entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is normal." I could be wrong but calling out someone on the other side of the world to answer why he is not wearing a mask during an interview or why he is traveling the world (which he is not), sounds "beyond the scope of what is normal" to me.

Interview with Sasha Bogojev / Sharing tips to collectors, by sfnyc on Jan 2, 2021 21:18:39 GMT 1, I'm sorry I didn't mean to upset you sal with my question about your political views. I don't think anyone meant to upset anyone here except with the Karen thing (which I think can also be racially defined as per its initial first specific instances/appearances which were against black individuals).
I'm not an expert on you or your work and even wrongly assumed you were based in the US. The video was actually giving me the wrong impression that you were traveling all over the world etc. I think your answer/explanation is totally fine. Here even in California you still have people like supermarket cashiers or shoppers refusing to wear masks without any enforcement, putting everyone at risk by following Trump propaganda. I guess Lisa should have added a context note/explanation in the video, because it's not you as the subject that has to make these indications but the video maker. And the lack of such will often lead to misunderstanding as it did here.

Interview with Sasha Bogojev / Sharing tips to collectors, by Coach on Jan 2, 2021 23:25:39 GMT 1, I’ve known Sasha for many years and consider him to be a good friend. What he has contributed to the art world is huge. Helping emerging artists. Writing for well respected publications. Organising and curating shows. He’s a thoughtful, pleasant and hugely knowledgable art lover. He used to post on here regularly. He added so much to this forum. It’s a crying shame that he doesn’t anymore. The forum is very much poorer for it. I hope that his replies to the criticism of him mean that we can move on from that.

Interview with Sasha Bogojev / Sharing tips to collectors, by sal on Jan 3, 2021 11:52:55 GMT 1, "Karen is a pejorative term for women seeming to be entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is normal."
I guess Lisa should have added a context note/explanation in the video, because it's not you as the subject that has to make these indications but the video maker. And the lack of such will often lead to misunderstanding as it did here. You seriously don’t see it still, do you?!
You should just stop as there was no misunderstanding here to begin with. You just made bunch of assumptions cause your head is poisoned and no one but yourself should or could help you with that.
Best of luck!
One question for Sasha would be with time are you keeping to the same methods of discovering art or do you find the art is now coming to you as people get to know you more ?
The art is definitely coming to me more these days but its VERY rarely something I can work with (either feature or include in my shows). Instagram is still #1 place to discover and connect with people and I cant wait for the art fairs to start again as I love discovering the work in person like that.
And Coach, thank you for the kind words mate!

If I had known there would have been so much confusion, I would have put a disclaimer and made things clearer.
As you can tell I am not Spielberg (yet ) and really learning by doing. That's why I have been posting here to have feedback and insights on what people would like to see. I have found interviewing people in the industry is so enriching for people passionate about it.
Sasha didn't ask or need to do the interview with me, I am grateful he took the time to share his experiences and knowledge on the industry.
I'd love to hear what you enjoyed the most about the interview as well and who you'd like to see next.

I'd love to hear what you enjoyed the most about the interview as well and who you'd like to see next. Congrats on the interview Lisa (and Sasha aka Sal). The part I enjoyed the most is when Sasha talks about moving house, putting everything in boxes for a while, not really remembering what was in those boxes once came the time to unpack them and having some 'what was I thinking when I bought that / I need to get rid of that / I missed that piece' moments. Collecting art (or vinyl records, or stamps, or shoes, or... rocks!) can easily turn into hoarding and become an unhealthy habit. As Sasha stated, 'I'm not living in a castle' and neither am I. So why are we accumulating all this stuff? Do we really need it? What void are we trying to fill with it? Is it essential to our well being? How much of it do we really need? I've been collecting for a little more than a decade now and I've gone through it, having flat files full of prints that you don't even remember buying and nowhere near enough wall space to display them if you ever were to frame them all. I sold everything that was in those flat files (and a whole bunch of stuff that isn't necessarily art related) to fund one meaningful piece and completely changed my approach to collecting (and just owning stuff in general) since then. If it is not being displayed, it needs to go where it will be. If it is not being used, it needs to go where it will be. And nowadays I'm also very mindful of the footprint all this packing and shipping is leaving behind but I won't get into that. Again, congrats on the interview, keep it up!
