An affordable Rolex which is easily available at retailers or online,
I'm afraid those days are long gone.
I know that it's not the same but have you considered alternatives such as Tudor?

I have the BB58 in blue, stunning watch, very reliable as well, pretty much +5 seconds in a week. Highly recommend them as an alternative, at least you can pick a Tudor up, unless you've years of purchase history with an AD you stand no chance .

AD dependent, you can order a datejust 36 or smaller. Maybe not all dials, as the palm and fluted motif are extremely hard to come by, but the rest, you have a pretty good chance.
PM models are actually harder/impossible to order now unless you want a ladies size.

Well my AD had ordered me a mens PM model late last year and it took 4 months so all I can say is it must be ADs choice. Looking at ordering a WG Yachtmaster on OF and I am being told 6-8 months.

Just some advice if you want to get more acquainted with watches. Join a good watch forum and read up on watches and possible ask for advice.
Italians are very passionate when it comes to watches, after all this is the country where the vintage watch craze started. Here you can find some Italian watch fora:
As an alternative to Rolex you could consider Tudor which is a sub-brand of Rolex.
So these brands share similarities such as the Oyster watch case. Generally Tudor watches are easier to obtain and more affordable. Whatever you choose, best of luck to you

Direct from an AD friends mouth, "It's never AD's choice to order a watch. It's always Rolex corporate either allowing, or not allowing it. They will, at a whim, close off orders for certain models, or certain dials within those models." It's possible they're using the term "order," when they mean they will offer one to you first when they get it, but hey, maybe your AD is the biggest account Rolex has and they make special dispensation. Are you in a big city?

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by nik2000 on Mar 28, 2022 20:25:43 GMT 1, hey - any tips on getting a new Rolex? I'm just after a stainless datejust, but even that seems impossible.
I'm familiar with the current market; I bought my other Rolex's used so unfortunately I don't have a Rolex AD relationship.
(I'm in London so I'm sure that makes things even harder).
Any tips appreciated!

Are you in a big city? I am in the U.K near Birmingham. I expressed an interest in a certain PM model and was basically told if I wanted that model it would take a long time, how long I never asked. I then asked about a different dial maybe less in demand and was told I they could place an order. Watch was then delivered in the agreed timeframe, maybe the Rolex rep was ok with it.

Itโs possible but you have to cozy up with an AD.
Like the art world, the primary market is all kinds of messed up.
