BANKSY AUCTION HOUSE ADVICE, by Reader on Jan 21, 2021 13:49:24 GMT 1, Im sure I'm not the only person here considering consigning his Banksy prints to auction. I'm currently speaking to a major auction house about placing a few signed prints. What are the things I should be watching out for, what constitutes a "good deal". I'm overseas, professionally packing and shipping framed prints, wise with glass ? insurance ? something the auction house could facilitate ?
They add on a % on their side of the sale, but are there any other costs for the seller, aka me.
Appreciate any advice from anyone who has also put their pension in a box and shipped in overseas.
(apologies if there's already a significant thread on this)

It doesn't hurt to have independent opinions right, after all, they are sales people. Seller's commission for example. This I've just learned is on top of the buyers premium. I wasn't aware of this. So what % to expect ?

This I've just learned is on top of the buyers premium. I wasn't aware of this. So what % to expect ? I was referring mainly to the points around shipping costs and other fees. Researching online just throws up all sorts of questions around insurance, photography fees, consignment fees, claw-back clauses, online listing fees, catalogue fees etc etc... It seems they start off with all of these additional fees, and then generally waive them, to give the seller a good feeling. So yeah, just wondered if anyone on here had been through the whole process and what to expect, what their experience was. Heard so little about it.

Heard so little about it. i dont know the specific threads but there has been loads of discussion on this and some members on here regularly consign so there should be plenty advice in due course. What is clear is if you have something they sell successfully ie signed banksys then you are in a good position to get a good deal on sellers fees, maybe even sellers commission waived.

BANKSY AUCTION HOUSE ADVICE, by Love Is In The Air on Jan 21, 2021 15:08:54 GMT 1, Hey Reader,
There are some threads on this but possibly not easy to find as they die away quite quickly. I contributed to this one which was mainly about commission. In short it seemed to be worth shopping around.
urbanartassociation.com/thread/166217/selling-banksys-auction-house
There was another thread more on which auction house to use too, I think in the last 12 months there have been much better results at a couple of auction houses compared to other so possibly best to go with them even if their fees are a little higher. You could also ask for a reserve to ensure no print sells super cheap.
urbanartassociation.com/thread/169437/preferred-auction-house-selling-banksy
The other thing sometimes mentioned is the option to consign and sell with with a gallery so you have a more accurate idea of what you will get financially. There are threads on this too and I think someone had dealt with Hang Up and had a good experience selling high value items. They do sell a lot of Banksy and are knowledgable. The Banksy Value website also sells prints and is a good tool for people selling in terms of recent prices

Good luck with it all, a nice position to be in!

This is really helpful, thanks, it's appreciated. And yes, I have reasonable offers from private buyers, galleries etc, just wanted to weigh up options tbh. Not sure if it's greed, the excitement of the gamble, the event or the reputation and prestige of a top tier auction house that makes it an option. Luxury problem I know. Just don't wanna stomp in like a working class oik and get ripped off with a ton of hidden charges or fees. I'll tread carefully. Cheers

BANKSY AUCTION HOUSE ADVICE, by bestdj777 on Jan 21, 2021 16:40:38 GMT 1, Not sure if art auction house work the same way as sports memorabilia ones do in the states, but, if youโve got a desirable enough piece that they really want in their auction, you can sometimes negotiate so they waive the sellerโs fees and give you a portion of the buyerโs fees.
