Of course the stock has to go up and with everyone holding there are no more stocks left to borrow driving the price up even more. Basic supply and demand (like art).

Hey Coach - Wallstreet put millions into betting a company would fail and jobs would be lost. Individuals across the world bought shares in that company - taking money from the hedge funds and into the pockets of every day people. The hedge funds find themselves in a position where they have to buy stocks to make up their losses. BILLIONS have been transferred from Hedge fund to ordinary people. Don't feel sad - its a remarkable thing.

Several months ago small investors joined together on chat forums in buying stock in a Gaming/Retail company that Hedge funds had bet on to fail. The everyman traders traded using an App called Robinhood, ostensibly owned by the same Wall Street investors that were being squeezed. In response, they used their influence to have the App manipulate the market by preventing purchases by small traders and allowing Hedge Funds to continue -they also had chat rooms & facebook groups closed down where strategies were being discussed. An unprecedented digital class war if you like.
