Hanging art without nails/ screws, by artnow on Feb 2, 2021 20:24:08 GMT 1, Please can anyone help......
Iโm looking to get a lot of my art out of storage and on a large wall in my property. Iโve got a cable detector which wasnโt a cheap one bleeping like there is no tomorrow for power. Iโm confident there is no power there but at the same time donโt want to die for art.
Itโs a stud wall with two layers of plasterboard.
Can anyone suggest a means of how to hang a multitude of prints. Had a look at Command 3M tape but itโs just not up to the job.
Any advice welcome at this stage. Starting to get really fed up with it now. Even considering using No Nails to whack up some make shift brackets. Iโm not fussed about not being able to take the brackets off the wall, just the art off the bracket.
Peace
JC

But I would recommend framing them....

Hanging art without nails/ screws, by eyectopus on Feb 2, 2021 20:35:35 GMT 1, I recently had to hang a piece on a stud wall. I wanted to attach using the wood frame behind the stud. I found the wood by using strong magnets. The magnets are attracted to the nails used to attach the plasterboard to the wood. I tied string to the magnets and very quickly found the wood. I know this doesn't answer your question but it could be another option for you.
I just had a single layer of plasterboard so not sure if it would work with two layers. It would depend how the 2nd layer was attached.

Might use that technique to find each stud and then put up a picture rails the entire length to hang off. Cheers for the serious answer and keep them coming ๐ค๐ป

Hanging art without nails/ screws, by ajr on Feb 2, 2021 21:29:30 GMT 1, As above. Use strong magnets and they will find the nails in the studwork. Then use the studs to hang a rail or hooks. Those cable detectors can be a bit funny. They will pick up anything metallic, so what they find might just be nails or metal reinforcement strips or ties. Best way is to mark out what they pick up and see if it makes sense for a cable ( it should be obvious if there is an electrical cable running there)or pipe to be there (although anything new would have plastic pipes nowadays).

All over this, thank you! The STAS system looks great. Itโs a 4m wall so plenty of space for the art with this system. Love the fact you can just move and re-arrange as and when without removing nails/ screws.
Cheers for the advice
