Damaged Work Help Please, by stock on Feb 15, 2021 19:00:48 GMT 1, I commissioned this work from Isaac Brest, the material is Painter's tape on sheetrock, in artist's frame. I was uncomfortable not having glass over it (I kept the artist's frame) so I made sure to be extra careful with it. We had a remodel done and the work was damaged. That's life, luckily the builder said their insurance will "either pay for restoration or replacement."
I know how to value the work from working at a gallery and other experience, but I don't know how to in an insurance context or how it may differ. I have no experience with insurance claims for art damage (valuation issue, etc.), nor had work restored. I also don't know if it will effect resale down the line (I don't plan on selling this ever but I also didn't expect to be in a global pandemic so the information is helpful). Can I have insurance pay the value and I get it restored separately so I'm reimbursed and I can try to fix this? I'd really appreciate any advice to avoid any common mistakes in either the insurance/valuation/ restoration process. I don't want to settle/ make a mistake because I love this work.

Damaged Work Help Please, by mose on Feb 15, 2021 19:08:59 GMT 1, Fan of Isaac's work. Dealt with him a couple of times back in the old Still House days.
Have you reached out to him yet? I ask as he might be able to assist and, well, avoiding Cady Noland issues is helpful when it comes to restoration.

Damaged Work Help Please, by stock on Feb 15, 2021 19:42:03 GMT 1, Oh good idea, I didn't even think of that. I guess I can see if the insurance will cover shipping, etc. and they might have to pay more than the full cost of purchase. Maybe I can ask if there's a way to put glass on the frame too that won't detract from the work because it's going to get damaged again. I always get worried water or something will splash on it.
