Paypal Refund - BEWARE, by Dive Jedi on Feb 18, 2021 11:50:44 GMT 1, Hi all,
just a warning to everyone concerning Paypal.
I recently received a payment through Paypal. We had agreed upon a payment as a Friend, but since the buyers Paypal didn't allow this he paid for Goods & Services.
Since this meant over 200 euro in fees, I refunded the payment and requested a payment as a Friend.
Before : when refunded a transaction was completely reversed, so also fees were refunded.
NOW : a full refund is sent is to the buyer, BUT the fees are not reversed !
So if a 4.000 payment for G&S is sent the seller receives 3750. When refunded, you basicly send a payment back of 4.000 And the original 3750 reception remains. So as a seller you lose 250.

Paypal are unbelievable, it seems that after eBay announced they would be removing Paypal as an option over the next couple of years Paypal have resorted to dirty tactics all over.... I saw a news article recently that there has been a drastic increase in holding funds and not paying them back.

Paypal Refund - BEWARE, by Dive Jedi on Feb 18, 2021 12:03:49 GMT 1, That doesn't see fair at all. A similar thing happened to me with my credit card. I complained and got the fees refunded. I would recommend you complain to PayPal. Have PayPal also increased their fee charges? It used to be 2.9% (here in the UK). 2.9% of 4K = 116 3750 paid 3548 received So 202 fees on 3750 = 5,4%
This has been the case for at least 2 years.

No idea why they charge an extra 2% if it's coming from another country. There's no reason for it!

Paypal Refund - BEWARE, by Sebastian Dusseldorf on Feb 18, 2021 12:37:57 GMT 1, Yeah, some people might find PayPal fees high, alright.
But can we also take a minute and laugh a bit about the fact that it's 2021 and there are still people who think they can just send money as a protected payment on PayPal and expect the buyer to receive the agreed amount? I mean that is the actual issue in this case. They "bought" a service they didn't understand, which is quite ridiculous, if you are dealing with these amounts of money.

Paypal Refund - BEWARE, by Dive Jedi on Feb 18, 2021 14:00:17 GMT 1, 3750 paid 3548 received So 202 fees on 3750 = 5,4% This has been the case for at least 2 years. Sorry, I'm still confused as to why you are being charged 5.4% If the buyer and seller are both using euros then I think the rate should be 2.9% I copied this from the PayPal site... "When you buy or sell goods or services, receive payments through QR Codes, make any other commercial type of transaction, send or receive a charity donation or receive a payment when you โrequest moneyโ using PayPal, we call that a โcommercial transaction. Standard rate for receiving domestic transactions Commercial Transactions 2.90% + fixed fee" I think the keyword here is "domestic".
99% of my transactions are international and I always get charged 5,4%.

Paypal Refund - BEWARE, by sandinista on Feb 18, 2021 18:31:30 GMT 1, i bought off a site who wanted payment in bitcoin. So I opened a coinbase account deposited ยฃ20 bought some eth and had a balance of about $25. Then paid for item on website $8.95 and was also charged the same again in fees by coinbase. as well as my bank charging me a currency fee.

Paypal Refund - BEWARE, by Raph on Feb 18, 2021 19:40:33 GMT 1, For exchange-rates, they are always in defavour of seller/buyer. It is possible to choose the currency you pay with when you choose payment via credit card directly on paypal (the option is hidden below the credit card information and your own bank rates will apply instead of paypal abusive rates).
For non domestic sale, agreed with Dive Jedi, they always take a supplemental fee (beside the abusive exchange rate) depending on country of destination I think.
For the fee not refunded by paypal in case of a direct cancellation, I think it is highly contestable as the consumer protection service has not been used, and it is only due to a mistake from the buyer. Maybe, it could have been taken in charge by the buyer who made the mistake ? you may be able to open a litigation on this base ...
(do you want I try to dig the Paypal terms and conditions? maybe I can find something interesting as a lawyer...)
