Would you buy a (slightly) damaged print , by Erik Ibiza on Feb 23, 2021 19:59:53 GMT 1, Just looking for some simple advise...
I've been in touch with a gallery about a slightly damaged print. It's has a little fold in the edge...the ink does not look damaged by it and I think it should flatten if you frame it. It also has a little scratch but the print is rather large so I don't think this will be noticed either. I can get it with a little discount.
I was wondering if anyone here has ever bought a slightly damaged print (whilst knowing it was indeed damaged off course) and if it's a smart/dumb thing to do. The print is an AP of a sold out limited edition and I really like it.

Would you buy a (slightly) damaged print , by Brittany's Urban on Feb 23, 2021 20:11:46 GMT 1, Question is: do you plan to resell? If the answer is no and if you are getting a good discount, I would go for it. The negative point could be on the resale point of view... Just my opinion!

Would you buy a (slightly) damaged print , by Gurn on Feb 23, 2021 20:20:11 GMT 1, The first print I ever bought had a crease right down the middle which was only visible close up. I bought that print at a fraction of the price of a mint one. Had it on my wall for nearly 10 years, in which time no one ever noticed the crease. I actually came to love the fact that it had lived a bit . When I eventually sold it I doubled my money.

For example if it is a relatively new edition, and even though it is cheaper because of the damage, there may be an opportunity to pick it up at auction or elsewhere at a later date. It depends on how much the slight scratch might bother you after some time, especially if you see other better condition ones become available.
However if it is an older print, of say 40+ years and by an established artist, then it might be the case that the only opportunity is for one with some slight damage, and you probably wouldn't even notice it.
I picked up a print recently that I know is housed in some permanent collections and whilst it has some old tape markings around the edges, once framed and hung still looks amazing. I even float framed it and I feel the markings on the sides even give it a bit of gravitas considering its age.

Would you buy a (slightly) damaged print , by Lroy on Feb 23, 2021 20:25:57 GMT 1, Yes of course. “Mint “ only exists in Uk/USA langage. Sometimes it’s exaggerated... Even the fact to roll a print and to put it on a tube it’s not anymore mint. Anyway some collectors are worst than stamps ones.. Each his own . But yes I would like to create a second market called “ damaged prints “

Would you buy a (slightly) damaged print , by ajr on Feb 23, 2021 21:08:11 GMT 1, If you like it, then get it , but ask for a bigger discount. I'm pretty sure you can flatten it under some books or frame it out. If of any value, you can get it restored professionally. If you wanna hang it at home, go for it and you probably won't notice it and enjoy the image. Some people too concerned about "mint" condition, but art is for being enjoyed and hung on walls.

Would you buy a (slightly) damaged print , by Coach on Feb 23, 2021 21:23:38 GMT 1, I think that if you buy a print from source or secondary expecting it to be in good condition and it arrives otherwise, your enjoyment of it can be affected. If, on the other hand, you buy a print knowing it to be damaged, with an appropriate and fair discount, then you won’t be similarly affected, and can enjoy the print without a constant reminder of the seller’s nefarious or careless conduct.
