Does anyone know the tax situation with buying from a NYC gallery from the UK?
I believe that I would pay 5% VAT on Cost+Shipping, but would I also pay NYC sales tax?
The piece i'm looking at is $6k plus $500 shipping so could be quite expensive if paying taxes at both ends

However, I'd expect a 20% tax bill on arrival and you may have to fight to get the 15% back. Even when I label everything correctly and put the correct import codes my buyers have still gotten hit with a 20% VAT on arrival. I think things have changed a bit with import duties being paid by the sender but believe that may be on lower value items (someone correct me if I'm wrong). That's why Shepard Fairey stopped taking orders for the UK.
