Damien Hirst H9 โข The Virtues, by Art Buy Guy on Mar 3, 2021 10:28:14 GMT 1, Flicking through old Hirst release posts and it seems a lot of users were waiting for the cherry blossom drop for a while. Plenty of comments lamenting that they will be "unobtainable" for regular buyers, go only to VIPs, be massively oversubscribed etc etc Now there is a release where if you want one, you can buy one at a (relatively) affordable entry point for a Hirst. Just shows who is buying it to enjoy and who is really just lamenting over flipping value. I like them, I'm in for one and it's going on the wall. Same for me. I'll order one tonight at Leviathan (currently #3 is the favourite).
As #1 will probably be the largest edition of the series, I'll trying to make a bargain in the secondary market (even if it's ebay) and get it this way. If not, it's still fine. But I'm not expecting a flood of offers comparable to the charity editions Heart, Rainbow, Fruitful and Forever.

Damien Hirst H9 โข The Virtues, by Frndly Fire on Mar 3, 2021 10:30:29 GMT 1, As well as all the online marketing thereโs been articles in most major newspapers about these, so theyโre going to big editions for sure. We bought one because we really like it, and have the perfect spot for it. Unless we have to sell the future value is somewhat inconsequential.

Damien Hirst H9 โข The Virtues, by whatsthestory on Mar 3, 2021 10:58:52 GMT 1, I've thought long and hard about whether or not I'll get my first Hirst print with this edition. I like every image and have a genuine love for cherry blossom trees (and most things Japanese), they remind me of my childhood and are the epitome of spring time. When I first saw the images I thought me buying one was a complete no brainer...huge print, great price, lovely images signed by possibly the most famous artist alive. It was a done deal, I just needed to select my favourite one. 6 days later and I feel totally different about them. Like others my social media pages have been totally bombarded with adverts for these. It's relentless. Every single time I log into something I see an advert for them. Every.single.time. I'm literally being bombarded by advertising for these. It's not a cookies thing either. Henti must be paying a mind blowingly massive fortune to ram these down peoples throats. I've never seen a sales pitch like it. Strangely, reading through the comments people have left it appears that the general consensus seems to be one of negativity towards them too which I'm really suprised at. Another issue is that I really begrudge having to pay for these in US dollars and then having to pay a conversion fee to do so. Fuck that. Things like that infuriate me. There is no need for it. Finally, looking at recent images of the prints posted on here I'm really not keen on the super glossy finish to them. It looks sickly sweet and cheapens the image in my opinion. I've done a complete u-turn on these. I fully understand why people would want one or more of these prints but personally, I think I'll just wait until I get my first Hirst. When thinking about the social media bombardment it is worth remembering it is all targeted adds. You are subbed to an art forum, likely browse other art related websites etc. Joe Bloggs isn't getting bombarded with a Damien Hirst sales pitch, it's very targeted to people like yourself.

Damien Hirst H9 โข The Virtues, by JW on Mar 3, 2021 11:01:12 GMT 1, 6 days later and I feel totally different about them. I think what you've written is fair and valid. I'm sick of seeing the ads too, but I wouldn't let that alone sway you as it will be a distant memory in no time. (The ebay links may be a different story!)
Like you, I have a real affinity to cherry blossom trees and I think it will look great on my wall. That in itself was enough to sway me. I personally can look past the glossy finish.
In regards to the negative comments, well, I think that's par for the course these days. Was it Ricky Gervais that said Twitter (ie any social media platform) was "like reading every toilet wall in the world at once"? I'm sure when the rainbows/fruitful & forever editions were released a lot of people said they wished he would just hurry up and get to the cherry blossoms.
Anyway, not here to change your mind. There will be something else to spend money on soon enough.

They are in soho, London right? Not soho fucking NYC so why am I having to pay in usd when they are in the uk and so am I !!! Just a little thing that pisses me off! Advertise in ยฃยฃยฃ, youโre British ffs They might ship these from somewhere else because of the duty and the hassle with customs in the U.K
The duty is applied from the country they ship from, do you know where they will be shipping from?
Thanks

The negative comments are mainly coming from the rest of the non art buying public seeing these ads for whom 3k is a lot of money, don't like contemporary art or have always hated Hirst/his wealth/his art.

Boring hell so many life stories on here of insecure men trying to justify their purchases. If you like it and can afford one, then buy it. If you donโt like it or unfortunately canโt afford it then avoid.

There will be duty on top for other European countries, but they shouldnโt be charged 20% VAT when purchasing. Just the amount their own country charges when it arrives at customs.

Certainly looks like that. Very odd to pick that section of the canvas to be a print if it is.

Yeah same. Shame as it was my favourite. #2 has something similar in top right, but less obvious. I wish they put better pictures up.

This is 4 IRL. I donโt think it spoils it in any way. DH posted quite a few videos when he was painting these and he was often adding/removing/thinning or thickening branches. I quite like that itโs visible.
