Why are neither this listing nor this eBay user (who is a brand new user) browsable via eBay search? This item is not showing up as sold on eBay as far as I can see.

Except it doesn’t look like a real sale transaction...

I don't see it on ebay UK as I don't think they were shipping here, but it is definitely there if you change to the US site.

Well I’d say price they’re willing to pay depends on which one they wanted. Often the simplest reason is the correct one.

This was an open timed edition. This is not like a limited print that quickly sells out and people are actively looking to get one om ebay. The only people that were unaware of it a month ago will be buying it at an actual auction house, not actively searching on eBay.
Well you certainly can’t question watertight evidence like this.
Apologies everyone, I started this topic by misreading the UK eBay app and people seem keen to escalate it. I’m off to bed!

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by Richy Rich on Apr 10, 2021 23:43:13 GMT 1, I’d have to agree. The kind of people who are happy to drop £5k or £10k on a print without much knowledge of it aren’t the type who go trawling on eBay on a Saturday night. Not saying there won’t be the odd exception but I also wouldn’t be surprised to find out that a lot of these initial ‘sales’ are faked in the hopes of scaring some potential buyers into a fomo mentally.

Interesting point and one I hadn’t considered. However certainly doesn’t rule out the possibility of underhand sales techniques which take place on almost every sales platform.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by smj43 on Apr 12, 2021 0:19:15 GMT 1, To add some context to the debate, there are genuine buyers out there that missed the timed release, such as me. I’m now looking to pick one up off a flipper which understandably is going to mean paying a premium. The question is, should I be paying £7k plus on eBay? There are a few on there but only one has ‘sold’. Do I hold off in the hopes that the market will fall due to lack of demand because those who wanted it got it from source, or should I just pay the price and get one now for more than double the money??
As a side note; If anyone has one they want to flip, please PM me 😁

If the print is too big, the Hirst is even bigger. And because you couldn't afford it a month or so ago, you now have double the money and are wanting to spend double the cost. I can't tell if this account is real or not.
What are you talking about? Where did I say I didn’t have the funds? I know what size these are thanks.

I think many people skipped or even want another one at somepoint. You’ll see them at major auctions and artnet going for 12k soon.
I wish I got an entire set now.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by lawrencej on Apr 12, 2021 7:05:43 GMT 1, Personally I don’t think these will trade well, for a considerable time. There’s too many of them. This thread gives you a good indication of secondary demand. One person - questioned - bidding for a flip. Compare that to the Cage Prints thread which was a jamboree of buyers on the break. But that’s just an anecdote. The simple fact is that if these go up there’s an avalanche of them, held by weak hands, that will hit the market. But it will be a slow moving avalanche that essentially means these prints are capped medium term and take a very long time to go up significantly.
Case in point: Politeness was reported above to have sold for £7k. In fact, it sold for £4.5k. The buyer paid $3k, plus shipping, plus VAT, all of which adds up to about $3.7k. Sure, they made a little money, but not worth the hassle I would think.
No axe here - I’m long these prints, for enjoyment only.

There was an application process for the Gerhard Richard which not everyone was able to get one.
The Damien Hirst was timed edition allowing everyone on this forum to get one. Again Hirst and artists at this level. UAA has very very limited impact on - sale or market wise.
I wouldn’t compare two totally different releases and concluded a market for these. These definitely have a top/cap price - but it hasn’t gotten close yet.
If there was a flood you would have seen it by now and also I believe the larger edition prints have been shipped out already.

Oops - apologies, schoolboy error. I thought I had seen them all on eBay. I guess this was two sellers offering at the same price but trading at totally different levels. This situation has something for everyone: bulls can point to the individual nature of the market, bears can point to initial illiquidity indicating future demise. I’m in the middle. These won’t lose money, won’t go up a lot, and they will look great on my walls and those of my children, and so on...
