Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by Poster Bob on Apr 15, 2021 17:55:14 GMT 1, The charge on a $3k print from the US to the UK would be $150 plus minor handling fees which depend on the courier.
Anyone else in the states get a notification from HENI/DHL about "import duty payment"? I live in NY and they want $44.23. Last Hirst from Heni I purchased I never received a request for import payment. Just wanna make sure its legit before I pay. Wow! A 3K print and all you have to pay in import charges is 44 bucks? In the other direction (USA to UK) the charges would be more than $600.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by LJCal on Apr 15, 2021 19:28:35 GMT 1, So I'm looking at framing one of these. I contacted Heni about the UV protection of the laminate and they confirmed that there is UV protection but they couldn't confirm how much. I'm therefore thinking 70% anti-reflective glass and hopefully the two protections will add up. A few people here have mentioned that the ant-reflective glass will also cut down the reflectiveness of the actual artwork. However, my framer seems to think that the anti-reflective coating is on the glass only and will have no effect on the print. Has anyone framed one of these with anti-reflective glass as it would be good to get a first hand report. Cheers. Really don’t think there’s any need for any glass, the UV protection over the giclee will be fine just don’t hang in direct sunlight. I’ve gone simple tray frames and they look good.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by LJCal on Apr 15, 2021 19:30:56 GMT 1, Dropped mine off at the framer this morning - going for 99% AR acrylic for this. Would you mind my asking how much you’re paying for framing? Too much, the framing will cost more than the print.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by LJCal on Apr 15, 2021 19:39:31 GMT 1, Personally my view is to get in and out quickly on these, you can probably double your money now but I think more will come to the market as time goes on and prices will come down. I think these will end up like the Love of God prints (another collection of large editions) which after they found their level had limited growth for many years. Just my 2cents.

To be fair the Love of god looks like some Madonna album art though.

I admit they’re pretty garish but that’s kind of the point, I don’t know I always quite liked those prints, it’s certainly an important part of his oeuvre (the original skull) and I think will probably be viewed as more iconic than his blossom paintings.

Yeah I do think Spots, Harks and Skulls are what you think of when you think of Hirst but the skulls seem more like poster quality. I must admit I have never seen one in person so could be very wrong

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by jimmyjam on Apr 16, 2021 0:43:56 GMT 1, The sun is very very powerful thing.
Even in non direct light I have seen photos and art diminish tremendously.
I'll bet anyone - if you put one of these in a room with sunlight, even non direct sunlight, and compare it to one under extra UV protection or stored away... you will start seeing a difference in 5-10 years.. if you even keep it for that long.
I have a feeling a lot of these Heni prints will be ruined by the sun over the years. Hopefully I'm wrong. It's a really misleading format since they aren't using the top UV glass or Plexi on these, it's just too expensive.
The idea is nice... you can just hang it without a frame - but there's a reason why Heni and most companies will not tell you the exact UV on them.. it's not that great.
If you are going to put in a tray then why not just put glass on it at that point.
I couldn't afford museum glass on any of my heni prints but I did put extra UV protection on them. They really honestly don't add that much reflection and the amount saved, not using museum but also adding more protection for the long haul, was worth it to me. If I had the money sure.. Museum all the way.
My recommendation - if you do frame them. Make sure to have the framing company put a little window on the back of the frame so people can see the Hirst signed decal on the back of the print..

If any of you are interested, I’m offering, for the first time, storage to customers of their purchased editions in the Batcave Vault which is bonded fine art storage in Gotham, for a small fee of course.

I have seen so many damaged Banksy prints as well. You all need to pull them out of any frame before buying anything. Usually the edges and the print have color issues. Sun damage.
Like most art.
You’d be surprised how many top collectors actually make reproductions and display them and the originals are in their bat caves. You go to any top gallery or museum and all the best art is in a bat cave.
If your art is a sunny room then just expect damage to be happening.

I also asked for a % spec direct but always got a generic answer. 'It has UV protection'.
Not worth taking the chances of hanging without.

the reflection isn’t bad at all. I’m guessing that is museum plexi.
