Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by Deleted on May 28, 2021 23:29:33 GMT 1, It’s great so many people decided to frame them and they look fantastic. It’s not much more, in cost, to add a small window in back to show the signature label. My framer advised against this as it would need two backing boards (already an unusually large size). He suggested a similar effect could be achieved by photographing the COA and sticking it to the back of the frame.
Agreed. A decent framer would not want to cut a hole in the back as it compromises the integrity of the frame - which is there to protect the art.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by Forbidden Love on May 29, 2021 18:15:51 GMT 1, My framer takes a photo of any identifying marks and pastes it to the back of the frame. Yet to have an auction house complain or ask me to unframe anything... exactly what my framer does, who’s been framing most of his natural life, is in his 60’s, n trained his son the art of framing.... if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.... also i’ve never heard of anybody ever via private sale or auction not buying a piece cause there’s wasn’t a glory hole cut into the back of a frame that somehow proved authenticity above n beyond the provided provenance n examination of the artwork itself in person....
Same method also used by John jones (before they closed). I asked them to cut a window in the back and they advised against it .

It's hard to tell, have you used glass or is the piece just hung inside the frame?

I live near Manchester and have used a few not so good framers over the years. I wanted to find the right framer for this so asked a lot of questions first.
Pictor Gallery in Manchester. Lawrence advised and recommended loads and did a brilliant job.

I guess pace gallery and Yoshitomo Nara don’t know what they are doing. If you own his originals - which he designed the frames himself there are back windows. I have also seen other pieces at very huge galleries with them. So I guess I’m wrong and so are all these major artists I have worked for and these galleries.

Someone’s already said £400-800 depending on your choice of glass. That’s exactly the range I was quoted but it could go up, up, up if you ask for acrylic. I went for glass - it ‘s quite a weight!

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by Art Fan 2011 on Jun 9, 2021 11:22:33 GMT 1, I like them, and I’m buying. But I only see value - and marginal value at that - in these as a set. Individually, they look like a certain loss maker to me. Heavy promotion suggests a plethora of flippers with their finger on the trigger of “Damian Hurst - RARE” eBay listings. I think this was Daniel Silk’s point above - timed releases aren’t great investments and one should buy them if they like them. Anyone who really wants one but has to think about VAT, framing and shipping costs etc really should stay away and buy in the secondary market, which will have a tsunami of supply. ooops, called that wrong! Hope you picked one up when you had the chance

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by nixon451 on Jun 9, 2021 12:33:25 GMT 1, Arrived yesterday. Hammered some nails in the wall and they brighten up the room a treat. Really wouldn’t waste money on framing and glazing. Very nice! What are those lines on your ceiling next to the smoke detector?

Indeed very badly - good point. I guess I won’t make it as an art speculator. I bought just one set as I liked them for the art itself. Perhaps the natural response is to wish one had bought more but it seems like a hassle to carry sets of these for months/years then deal with auction houses, delivery, and (I think?) taxes. Depends on one’s mindset I suppose.

Or you hold both and the NFT acts as the digital COA? Could allow Hirst to collect royalties for any future sale.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by samg26 on Jun 20, 2021 16:37:00 GMT 1, Damien Hirst H9-5 Honesty Asking price £7000
Am thinking of selling my Damien Hirst H9-5 (Honesty). It was delivered a couple weeks ago, it’s been opened up once to have a look and make sure everything is ok. Have decided it’s not to my taste and won’t make the wall. Am based in North London. Collection would be preferred as its huge, but I can look into couriering around the UK. Looking for offers around £7k. Looking around at others for sale, this seems a fair price, but open to discussion to. I can upload some photos later....
