Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by tasmannelson on May 20, 2021 0:26:34 GMT 1, Back to the virtues. Has anyone had problems with DHL? I got an email saying no one was home? I had two people waiting all day. Check security camera and No DHL vehicles to be seen. My issue is I can’t redirect as I have to get in touch with the sender. He I have not replied to my email. Anyone else have any similar problems? I imagine most have had problems with DHL here. Incompetent at best. Truth is, driver ran out of time and couldn't be arsed to deliver today. If you're lucky they might deliver it tomorrow, but don't get your hopes up. Oh and don't bother wasting your time phoning customer services, they don't give a fuck and you probably know more about where your parcel is than they do. Good luck and hope it arrives soon.
Thanks for the advise. Sadly I got all pent up and frustrated trying to communicate with them. A very bad move on my part for thinking getting in touch would help.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by rockbeer on May 20, 2021 8:16:12 GMT 1, driver ran out of time and couldn't be arsed to deliver Yup, lazy driver.
My guess is neither of you have the first idea of what life is like for these 'lazy', 'can't-be-arsed' delivery drivers. The reality, on a daily basis, is some or all of: an impossible schedule, horrendous traffic, poorly or mis-addressed items, unanticipated delays for a multitude of reasons, having to find locations that don't seem to exist, malfunctioning gps/satnav systems, broken down vehicles, rude and/or ignorant customers, rude and/or ignorant controllers yelling at you to go faster when you're sat in the middle of gridlock; nobody-home scenarios, having to piss in a bottle on the move, and a multitude of other things that sometimes mean something doesn't get delivered on time – and more often than not for minimum wage or not much more.
The miracle is that so much arrives on schedule.
And yes, of course it's annoying when the driver says nobody was home when in reality s/he couldn't make the drop that day for some other reason, but what do you think happens if s/he goes back to the depot without having appearewd to have made the attempt? That's right - financial penalties for circumstances probably outside their control.
Please try to think before posting your lazy, half-arsed generalisations about things you clearly have no idea about. While you're stressing over your latest Hirsts, your drivers are doing a job you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy and probably stressing about being able to pay the rent and feed their families.

I did drive for White Arrow for a few years as a delivery driver and then onto AAH pharmaceuticals for a few more. Yes very intense very stressful at times. I kept my integrity and honesty in tacked. Owned anything I couldn’t deliver and took abuse when it wasn’t my fault. To me a “Lie” is the worst it’s awful it’s low it’s disgusting it taints it infects. I have no sympathy ever for a “Lie”. Wouldn’t the world be so much better without a “Lie”. This is not about logistics, schedules or timing. This is about honesty and integrity nothing should ever get in the way of that. Enjoy the rest of your evening/afternoon/morning. Wherever you are.

Why would you feel the need to do this? And more practically, framed they weigh a tonne so how often are you going to be looking at it? Just take a photo.

And more practically, framed they weigh a tonne so how often are you going to be looking at it? Just take a photo. Because at the end of the day if you do ever want to sell it... and someone or an auction house wants to see the label. You will have to take the damn thing out of the frame to show it. And yes at this weight it will be a hassle. For cheap change just ask the framer to put a small window in the back. It's so simple and cheap. It's not for you but for anyone who wants to possibly buy it later.
Many people do this. Look at all the KAWS prints with stamps on the back (Brooklyn and Mocad). Anything that is signed or labeled should not be covered up unless you plan on taking it out. There are tons of faked prints and items - and at these prices I'm sure future buyers will want to see the label. Not just a photo.
Again it so simple to do and many many people do this. It will save you a massive headache down the road.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by jimmyjam on May 28, 2021 22:16:13 GMT 1, You are very lucky and continue to do that. It honestly takes the framing company a minute to do and cost nothing. It does no harm to you but just saves you from any possible headaches in the future.
I have definitely had auction houses un-framing things and also had people want to see the actual back of pieces for the signature. It's really not uncommon for people to want to see it - if they are spending top dollar on a piece.
The "window" or cutout should have a small acrylic on it to protect it from dust. I never seen a cut out without a protective acrylic or cover. Many top galleries in NYC with pieces that have signatures on the back - have a small little cut out in the frame - sometimes covered but can be easily removed to see the back. I've seen this on many framed pieces by top artists in galleries in nyc.
You can do whatever you like. Every suggestion I have made on this piece has be hated instantly by the same people. Yet people have done very well on these, are now getting them framed and they look great. It's only a suggestion - if you are going to go through with framing them. Do whatever you like with you items.

My framer advised against this as it would need two backing boards (already an unusually large size). He suggested a similar effect could be achieved by photographing the COA and sticking it to the back of the frame.
