Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by Happy Shopper on Feb 27, 2021 14:34:16 GMT 1, Collectively there will be thousands of these printed and won't be worth much more when they flood ebay. I doubt any one print will be worth more based on numbers printed. Is anyone planning on hanging these on the wall? (I am)
Yes. If I can find a wall big enough! Ideally I’d like 2 next to each other, but I don’t really have space for that!

was thinking the same, a whole hiuse rehang might be in order to get a good placement of these

That was always rule number one right - buy what YOU like. I’ve chosen and can’t wait to get it framed up.

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by jimmyjam on Feb 27, 2021 16:01:20 GMT 1, Please don't buy a piece based on this poll. This poll was just made for entertainment purposes and I was just interested to see which print people like the most on this site.
They are all very similar and I don't think you can go wrong; if you are planning on purchasing one. Buy what you like and enjoy it. I think even a couple or three might look nice in a large house.
Flip side I dont even really want to go there. I don't think this release was made for that. If one version or two are a few hundred more in value... who cares... just enjoy the piece. Buy what you like. Again, I don't think this release was done for a flip and just for fans of the work; which I'm all for.

Everyone can have their own opinions, but for someone that thinks the best art of 2020 was the Sandra Chevrier X Shepard Fairey print, your opinion becomes invalid.

I may need to sell in say 10 years for the kids education. My question is does anyone know of any previous drops that were a large edition and how they matured? I’ve done some research but can’t find anything, so trying to decide if I like it enough to forgo share appreciation/dividends.

I believe as they ship from the UK, the rest of the EU will now have to pay whatever tax their country charges for importing goods from outside of the EU.
I know that when I recently shipped something to Germany from the UK, they had to pay the normal tax Germany charge.

It's a time limited run, although it may increase in value it's a long term investment and might not be substantial. This is in great contrast to a few runs you know will do well. I'd really be careful in investing in this if it's for a specific cause like your kid's education, I doubt it will dip but might not be worth your time or the risk.

10 years is probably the right time horizon.
Inflation is currently not an issue - but over 10 years...?! In my view the chances are high, that even these comparable large editions will work as inflation hedge and you won’t lose money.
If you leave inflation aside and think just in nominal amounts, I’m convinced that a yield of 7% (i.e. a doubling in value in 10 years) is not unrealistic.

Thanks for the response and this is along the lines of my thinking. I normally buy art to diversify my portfolio so buying a piece I like and not knowing the potential appreciation is troublesome.

If that was the case I wouldn’t have the gains on the banksy’s, Stiks, Pejacs, Hirst’s, Emin’s, Blake’s, I already own But a Hirst timed edition that may well run in to the thousands is a very different proposition to a limited edition print that has a specific print run of just 100. The two are hardly comparable.
Maybe my question was to hard to comprehend. I cannot find a precedent of how a timed edition (probably in the 1000’s) has panned out over say 10 years?
I don’t suspect I’ll need to but say the stock market tanked im ten years (unforeseen event/bear market) I’d rather sell a few pieces of art rather than shares at a discount.

It bothers me that it may not appreciate in value nor will it pay dividends. Still a fair whack when although I like the art that money could be put to work. I mentioned previously I buy to diversify but still only pieces that I kinda like.
