TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Jalouse Rosemont on Jul 2, 2019 22:19:24 GMT 1, Really! (draws breath) Who is going to pay +30% fees for most of that dross being carted out?
I thought auctions was supposed to reveal some lost gems, not a bunch of garbage that didn't sell on eBay for the 5th time running... (I know what, I'll put it in an auction!).
The horror.....

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by daniel3886 on Jul 3, 2019 1:16:59 GMT 1, You said..."bidding direct with us saves buyers online bidding charges" but I just logged in to Tate Ward and it states that there is an additional 3% charge for using the online live bidding service. Is this correct?
Iโll check why you were seeing this as the fee is correct but we have decided to absorb it for our buyers to make our own site the cheapest way to bid online and access the auction. I can promise any invoice which has a 3% charge for bidding via our own website will be cancelled immediately. Sorry I couldnโt reply to this sooner but todayโs auction had my full attention.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by daniel3886 on Jul 3, 2019 1:25:00 GMT 1, I think all the Banksy estimates are top end imho
Feel free to point any Banksy Sellers who want low estimates and reserves our way. My experience is every seller wants the absolute best price possible. Few are willing to put things in aggressively cheap as they donโt want to risk giving work away and that strategy may work in some cases itโs not foolproof.
Iโd rather pass something and return it than leave any seller feeling sick for selling too cheap.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by daniel3886 on Jul 3, 2019 1:32:49 GMT 1, This is all around disappointing. Starting way below the low estimates and never working their way up to the minimum. Also, feel they are quick to pass on some of them - like they expect to pass and are generally surprised when there's a bid. Would love to see the total sell through rate.
Iโve stated before our concern is not our sell through rate, our target is to sell work at prices our clients are happy with. Each sale has a very happy consigner behind it. When taking work in Iโve never come across a seller who isnโt happy with their chances of achieving a sale.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by daniel3886 on Jul 3, 2019 1:39:04 GMT 1, If they wish to keep this going then the lot criteria needs to be stricte, and they need more realistic reserves. All well n good letting sellers dictate prices, but it just ends up with lots going unsold.
Interested to hear what you think the criteria should be? Sellers are not given carte blanche, we advise and mutually agree numbers that work. Some sellers are firm on prices and will only move from that once the work has passed.
Iโd encourage anyone interested in a passed lot to get in touch with us. Nick and I will be conducting aftersales as a priority over the coming days, sellers continue to get our best efforts to sell their consigned works.

I watched auction houses start and grow over many years, its all about getting the name out.ย Yes they will make a bloomer or two but we all do.ย Setting up an auction house is not an easy business and its a very expensive start up. Come on i'm sure there are a few of you that will want to wish them well for the future Good luck Danny i'm sure you will be on to answer a few postsย
Appreciate your view on the sale. Auctions can be fickle with many factors contributing to an array of results.
We put our customers first above all else and will continue to do so. I see few others doing this. We listen to all comments good and bad and look to modify our model to adapt to changes in mkt conditions.

FYI there were 3 non paying bidders last time, they came via online platforms and have since been banned from all future sales. Non paying bidders will be pursued as strongly as possible and banned from subsequent sales. I will update this in 30 days in the event of any of todayโs bidders deciding not to pay so there is a clear transparent picture of delinquency rates. I expect the figure will continue to be small and policy is any unpaid lot is re offered at 0% in the next sale.

Congrats on the purchase invoice will follow shortly. The work is being removed back to storage at Cadogan Tate for collection. If you are very local to Shoreditch you may be able to collect and pay for the work before it leaves but youโll need to be there in the next hour or so.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Deleted on Jul 3, 2019 9:43:39 GMT 1, I'm not sure if I was reading it right or not but your site seemed to say that VAT was added to the hammer price. This isn't usually the case with UK sellers selling to UK buyers. So, basically, with buyer's premium the total cost was going to be hammer price + 50%. Or for higher value lots; hammer price + 54% (VAT + BP + ARR). Is that correct? I have to admit, that put me off bidding on items I was interested in.

One thing for sure you can't fault the service Danny gives. I've seen the guy on here at all hours at night answering messages.
Some auction houses i deal with takes them over a week to answer a simple question, as for getting condition reports. I've often had them sent to me the day "after" the sale.
Service is everything buying or selling. How many auctioneers will you find coming on here answering questions day and night NONE........

On one of the bidding platforms it said this... VAT on all UK auctions is payable on the premium charged. So you will pay hammer price, plus 25% sales premium and VAT on that premium which is a further 5%. If you are bidding from outside the EU and the work is exported there then the VAT is waived. The website you are looking at also adds their own fee of 3% to use the platform hence the higher figure (this is why it's always better to bid direct with the house you'll save money)

I think he is rightly questioning the โVAT/tax on hammer: 20%โ which Iโm assuming is incorrect, but would certainly have made me think twice.
