TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by rebate on Jul 3, 2019 11:01:32 GMT 1, VAT on all UK auctions is payable on the premium charged. So you will pay hammer price, plus 25% sales premium and VAT on that premium which is a further 5%. If you are bidding from outside the EU and the work is exported there then the VAT is waived. The website you are looking at also adds their own fee of 3% to use the platform hence the higher figure (this is why it's always better to bid direct with the house you'll save money) I think he is rightly questioning the โVAT/tax on hammer: 20%โ which Iโm assuming is incorrect, but would certainly have made me think twice. Thats a bit unfortunate! I also would have seen it and thought, i know this is meant to be on the fees, but no way im taking the chance of adding 20% to my hammer price! One for the quick fix for sure though. Very off putting at the last minute and when you probably cant get anyone to check, as they are all at the auction!

Apologies, scanned results quickly. It was 'forest' - sentiment still stands, was pretty cheap if demand is what is made out.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Winter on Jul 3, 2019 11:37:19 GMT 1, I think this auction shows the reality of the urban art market. When the dust settles it will be the decent signed Banksy works and Kaws and not too many others. That said I do still think the Dog Save the Queen is a classic and regret selling mine.

Not too clear, but seems it may be that site and not Tate Ward causing that confusion.

If you (living in the UK) won an item from TateWard for a hammer price of, say, 1,000 pounds, what would the actual bill be for? Would it be 1K + 20% VAT + 30% BP + 4% ARR? Total 1,540 GBP?

And the "VAT/Sales tax" comment is directly referencing the hammer price. I'm not having a go at TateWard as I suspect it is not actually their fault. I am just saying it is incredibly confusing and unclear and I, for one, did not want to risk getting a bill that is far higher than I anticipated.

I have used various auction houses that use a symbol against lot numbers where VAT will be added to the hammer price (as well as the buyer's premium). This is fairly common practice. I don't mind as long as things are clear so you can adjust your bid accordingly.

If the work was not sold in the margin scheme i.e. it was owned by a company that had reclaimed the VAT on the purchase then yes there would be VAT on the hammer as well as on the premium. It's rare but it does happen, particularly in liquidations of company assets.

Am I missing something?

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by daniel3886 on Sept 22, 2019 17:57:35 GMT 1, Thanks Dan, weโve actually had similar amounts in our Apr and Jul auctions with both selling well. We also romped home in the best Urban Art Auction house poll (although Iโm not letting it go to my head as voter turnout was about 18 LOL). Appreciate you adding our badge to the thread thanks. If you have time please pop down to the view and come and see the work. Also if you have any work youโd consider consigning drop me a line Iโd be happy to help.
