Yayoi Kusama ๐ฏ๐ต Pumpkins โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by met on Aug 9, 2016 14:18:49 GMT 1, Amazing work, does it come with a registration card from the estate? The estate? Are you assuming the artist is dead?
I've always found the pumpkin paintings and sculptures annoying, among the more prominent but least interesting pieces in Kusama's vast body of work.
To my mind, their appeal is in large part down to viewer recognition โ i.e. people instinctively (with little real thought) attributing value to what is most familiar to them. That isn't uncommon, though it is arguably unfortunate.

I assume this is sarcasm and you know this is wrong.
Edit : Anyway, i don't want to hijack OP's thread but as an abstract enthusiast, i can hardly understand this statement.

Yayoi Kusama ๐ฏ๐ต Pumpkins โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by haring85 on Aug 9, 2016 16:24:07 GMT 1, When buying artwork by Kusama, you always need to buy with the artist's studio registration card, as there are tons of fakes specially in small sized artwork on canvas. Also, if you are buying prints, you should have very good provenance or an invoice from one of the galleries that represent her.

I assume this is sarcasm and you know this is wrong. Edit : Anyway, i don't want to hijack OP's thread but as an abstract enthusiast, i can hardly understand this statement. [As an aside, I have no issue per se with posts being slightly altered when quoted โ in the interest of brevity or relevant-text emphasis. And in this instance, the changes you made had no impact on the meaning, context or tone of my words. But as a courtesy and for transparency, I think it should always be stated (with "[...]" or another indicator) if any edits (however minor they may be) are made to somebody else's post when quoting it.]
No, there was no sarcasm.
We might have a communication gap here. From my side, I don't understand what you're specifically objecting to or disagreeing with.
Perhaps my point was expressed unclearly. The intention was to comment on artworks, particularly by well-known artists like Yayoi Kusama. In relation to these, and for a variety of reasons including insecurity, I believe most people are drawn to what they recognise โ and to what others within their circle will also recognise. It may be a work's subject matter (like the stylised depiction of a pumpkin), theme, execution style, medium, colour palette or whatnot. In crude terms, one could refer to that work falling within the scope of its famous creator's distinctive brand.
The above aspects, along with the identity of the artist or simply their name, serve as non-verbal communication tools among collectors and their friends or associates โ communication regarding matters that frequently have little to do with the art itself.
Reference to this was made by me recently in a separate thread. It often seems to be a case of "I like what I know", combined with "I want what they want". The latter is an expression of herd mentality. It underlines the significant, even overriding, influence (most visible in the upper echelons of the art market) of factors external to a collector's personal taste: perceived importance of a work, and perceived desirability to others.
For what it's worth, I don't believe this is stating anything but the obvious.

Yayoi Kusama ๐ฏ๐ต Pumpkins โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by Deleted on Dec 9, 2016 10:44:45 GMT 1, I would ask everyone to be very carefull with this seller...something is not right..
I was in the process if completing a deal for the Kusama Pumkin print..i asked the seller for provenance, any receipts of purchase. They told me the purchased the print at Sukura Fine art in Japan...
I contacted this Gallery and they said they had never sold Kusama prints nor heard of the seller. When i put this to the seller they immediately dropped ยฃ1000 on the deal and said that they acutally had purchased it from Hiroshima Gallery.
False provenance and eager sale to me means trouble...BEWARE
