londoners, by darwin on Mar 12, 2021 9:11:25 GMT 1, Imposing a curfew for men is a batshit crazy idea. As if something like could be imposed, from a constitutional standpoint.
Psychopaths walk among us. That is a fact of life.
This man exposed himself in a South London take away 3 days before Sarah Everard disappeared. What needs to be examined is that the police did not appear to properly respond to the incident. If they had, it might have been obvious that he was a danger. Were the police protecting their own?

I think the Jenny Jones who made the statement did a good thing, she knew she would be a target for the media but did it to get people talking about womens safety which it certainly has.

It's a divisive and stupid comment, I get that she was making a point but it just inflames this toxic debate on gender.

londoners, by a2b on Mar 12, 2021 12:10:50 GMT 1, Are the Police creating hysteria? Sadly if this poor woman had been murdered by a member of the general public it wouldn't be headline news and the topic of womens safety wouldn't be a major talking point. I hope her family and friends can take that as a glimmer of positivity at what must be very dark times.
Of course the Police have questions to answer and should/will be held accountable but we are dealing with humans in a very stressful job which causes mental illness. I know there are systems within the police force to help with this but a lot of the time you have to seek the help which to a lot of society is seen as a weakness and so is rejected.
Nothing is going to bring Sarah Everard back but maybe the current debate around her death will help to make society a safer place for everyone.

It's only divisive if you believe that a curfew was a serious option

Hysteria caused by the media, a quick google search and there are many females that have been murdered that have not made the front line news
The recent press releases presented as Deflection to draw away the fact of a potential police officer has committed the act .
In the government public service departments there have been a great input and awareness in the workplace of mental illness and mental health in the last 5 years so Human Resources have implemented many work place policies in the workplace to help deal with these mental health issues.
Along with the fact there has been a media campaign with the issues of mental health championed by prince William and a government review in mental health bought forward by the pandemic highlighting issues and again specifically highlighted in the media last year displays the problem is well known and with mental health tied into the disability act it is the workplace responsibility to protect and assist their employees
Yes it is a highly stressful job and this presents the case more so managers should be more observant and looking out for tell tale signs of their employees of the state of their mental health and a mental health assessment should be a part of the assessments in the 3 yearly medicals the police force undertake.
If the individual is found to be guilty of the crime this may cause many criminal cases he was involved in to be found unsafe and cost the taxpayer millions of pounds in costs in reviews and compensation claims.

Many of the suggestions have been set in place but yet again failure by the organization to follow policies set in place may have caused the issue. The fact that the same individual was arrested for indecent exposure 3 days before the event shows there are many questions to be raised.

Take into account her age and what her generation lived through with sexism, misogyny and bigotry they had to endure With a curfew put in place for women in 1977 and in 2006.
But with the police having their suspect and not putting out a firm strong statement to curb this hysteria they are effectively letting the other stories deflect attention from the real issues

The way the media presented her statements without the background history to present reasoning to her mindset presented by the media in a divisive absurd way which initially caught me out too. But in modern times we should move on from this mindset

It's interesting that you should state these things as though they were historical artefacts. I think the point is that very little has changed despite the problem of male violence being as old as the hills.
A UN report released this week suggests that the vast majority of women in the UK encounter misogyny of one kind or another in public spaces.

In no way have I presented in a way that these disgusting traits do not exist today, briefly explaining that in those time periods the conduct was rife and openly accepted as today it is more subtle with micro aggressions and unfortunately still continues , jeffry Epstein, prince andrew, bill cosby, max clifford, Harvey Weinstein have bought media attention to the wider public. The end of my previous statement explains why part was added
