Passion for Banksy, by elisajafa on Mar 12, 2021 15:01:20 GMT 1, Hello,
I think this post will be some kind of a nuclear bomb in this forum but I really want to learn things about people's passion for Banksy.
To be very honest, in Banksy's artworks I just see stencil rats, people with hoodies, grannies with "thug for life" sweater, a girl with a love balloon, nothing that I consider deeply touching, just some naive and easy art (even with the message behind, that can be a good one, but on a plastic art point of view I can't see the enthusiasm).
I know I will irritate most of the forum's members but I really want to know what you like/see/feel in Banksy's art.
Please, try to not be agressive but constructive in your answers (I don't need any "As an Arsham fan you obviously can't understing nothing...", etc.) as my goal is just to learn and grow my knowledge by having your points of view on Banksy's art.
Thank to all of you who will help me to understand more

Passion for Banksy, by Ravnur 2020 on Mar 12, 2021 15:31:50 GMT 1, I applaud you for asking the question 😀 but I’m sure it has been raised here many times.
I am no big connoisseur of art, but to me the draw and the art in Banksy's work is exactly the message. I think over the years he has in a public way made us look at yourselves and the society we live in and question it. His social and political commentary is done through wit, irony and humor and usually with an amazing eye for placement. To me this makes it art. Yes not every work is extremely deep and profound, but I guess we all have off days
A lot of other people produce much more elaborate stencil work and probably have greater technical skills, but their work is void of any message. That I consider craft. And then there are those who only make work to sell......
Cheers

Passion for Banksy, by elisajafa on Mar 16, 2021 7:20:09 GMT 1, toppins thanks for your answer 👍. I don't have Banksy's artworks, I have MedicomToy sculptures inspired by Banksy's artworks, just because I love sculptures (that's why I also have so many Arshams). I get totally your point of Banksy questionning the World, its horrors and vacuity. I will dive deeper into those aspects so I can understand more his art.

Passion for Banksy, by tab1 on Mar 16, 2021 13:00:36 GMT 1, Why do you collect Banksy, what is your appeal?
I like the fact he creates discussion on topics that are seen as a taboo subject or generally people have been ignorant towards which creates a better understanding of the subject There is a meaning behind the images, in this art scene there is a lot of art just for visual impact without any meaning
For example the mats, the problem with the migrants had been prevalent for a considerable period yet no discussions or interest were had here in great depth or understanding yet other artist had touched this subject.when these first came out there was some good sharing of the plight of the migrants and the ways we could help although it has slowly descended into v1 and v2 discussion investments now The same with the walled off hotel project which bought positive discussions and gave an insight into a world the media portrays differently and if you read the woh thread many people that visited had an amazing experience not expected and also learnt a lot from the tours and museum about the country that had it not been for Banksy would never of visited that country. Banksy art usually gives a spotlight to the underdog that gives a helping hand by the way of mass public interest that follows The art as a focal point that anyone from any race, class or culture can have an common interest in and have discussions and debates about which is what art is about. Then you have the people that are interested in the art for investment/profits or to display as a social standing of wealth and you also have the hobbyist that desire to collect rare and limited items.
